Kabul Has ‘Paused’ Fighting for Now: Afghan Foreign Minister

Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi has announced that the border clashes with Pakistan have been temporarily suspended.

Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi on Saturday (October 12), Muttaqi said, “We achieved our military objectives last night. Our friends, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, have expressed that this conflict should come to an end. Therefore, we have paused the fighting from our side for the time being,” according to India’s ANI news agency.

He added, “The people of Pakistan, in the majority, are peace-loving and want good relations with Afghanistan. We have no issues with Pakistani civilians. However, when someone tries to interfere in our internal matters, all civilians, government heads, ulemas, and religious leaders unite to defend the country’s interests.”

Muttaqi also warned, “If Pakistan does not want peace and good relations, then Afghanistan has other options as well.”

Notably, recent border skirmishes between Afghanistan and Pakistan have heightened tensions between the two neighboring countries.
