The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially approved the pre-season roadmap for the 12th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 12), announcing key dates for direct player signings and the player auction.
According to the announced schedule, direct signings for all eight franchises have commenced, with teams given until November 23 to complete the process. Each franchise will be allowed to sign one marquee player directly, provided that the player did not participate in PSL 10 or PSL 11.
The player auction for PSL 12 is scheduled to take place on January 23, 2027. PSL 12 itself is set to run from March 18 to May 2, 2027. The tournament will feature 44 matches played over 46 days across venues in five to six different cities in Pakistan.
A franchise workshop will be held next week to finalize key rules and guidelines. This session will address player retentions, the pre-auction trade window, auction rules, and playing conditions. The PCB plans to announce further details regarding retentions, trades, and auction regulations in the coming weeks.
To strengthen the domestic cricket structure, the PCB has aligned its domestic season with the PSL pre-season schedule. The National T20 Gold and National T20 Silver tournaments will serve as key platforms for identifying emerging talent prior to the PSL 12 player auction, offering top domestic performers a direct pathway to franchise cricket and national team selection.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi described the upcoming edition as the league’s biggest and most ambitious season yet, emphasizing that PSL remains the flagship stage for Pakistan cricket. He noted that bringing matches to more cities than before will bring the action closer to fans.
PSL Chief Executive Salman Naseer highlighted that playing across five to six venues marks a first in the league’s history. He stated that the race to build top squads has begun, adding that direct signings, trades, and retention decisions will shape the upcoming season.

Bournemouth surged to a 2-0 first-half lead over AC Milan in their UEFA Europa League clash, taking control after a dramatic incident led to a red card for Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan and a second penalty for the English side.
The home side put early pressure on the Italian giants, with Justin Kluivert threatening the Milan goal twice in the opening minutes. Kluivert was first dispossessed in the penalty box before firing another effort directly at Maignan following an error in Milan’s attempt to play out from the back.
The match exploded into action around the 26th minute when Maignan parried a deflected shot from Bournemouth defender James Hill. Following the play, Maignan clashed with Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams at the resulting corner, pushing him in the face. The referee issued a straight red card, which was subsequently confirmed by a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review.
Following Maignan’s dismissal, Milan manager Ruben Amorim brought on 21-year-old replacement goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani, withdrawing Omari Hutchinson to make space for the substitute keeper.
Marcus Tavernier stepped up to convert the resulting penalty, extending Bournemouth’s lead to 2-0. Bournemouth continued to dominate the first half, creating further chances through Adrien Truffert, Ben Gannon-Doak, and a Tavernier free-kick that narrowly missed the top corner.
At the half-time whistle, Bournemouth held a commanding 2-0 advantage over a ten-man Milan side, while other UEFA Europa League fixtures also reached the interval across Europe.
In other matches across the competition, Besiktas secured a 1-0 lead over Crystal Palace thanks to a stoppage-time goal from Wilfrid Ndidi in the 47th minute. Real Sociedad took a convincing 3-0 lead over Lillestrom, powered by a double from Sergio Gomez.
Elsewhere, Celtic and Celta Vigo remained deadlocked at 0-0 at half-time, while Olympiacos and Sparta Prague also held a goalless scoreline. Anderlecht led Jagiellonia Bialystock 1-0, Salzburg took a 1-0 advantage over Celje, and Levski Sofia led Viktoria Plzen 1-0.
In Cyprus, Omonia Nicosia held Benfica to a 1-1 draw at the break after Claudio Echeverri opened the scoring for Benfica in the 14th minute. Meanwhile, Hoffenheim carried a 1-0 lead into half-time against Lyon after extended first-half stoppage time.

Devotees across Naogaon district bade farewell to Goddess Durga on Bijoya Dashami, blending the joy of the annual festival with the sorrow of her departure. Puja pandals resonated with the beat of dhak drums, the blowing of conch shells, and ululation as rituals concluded.
From Wednesday morning, crowds of devotees gathered at various puja venues to seek final blessings and catch a last glimpse of the goddess. Following the conclusion of formal worship rituals at town pandals, married women participated in the traditional ‘Devi Boron’ and ‘Sindoor Khela’ ceremonies.
Dressed in traditional red and white sarees, women touched vermilion to the feet of Goddess Durga before applying it to each other’s foreheads and cheeks. The temple premises buzzed with festive energy as women celebrated the bond, looking forward to gathering again the following year.
Sneha Sarkar, a devotee participating in the Sindoor Khela at the Sri Sri Anandamoyi Kali Temple in the town, shared that while the departure brings sadness, it is accompanied by joy. She noted that they had celebrated the festival over six days and eagerly await the goddess’s return next year.
Another devotee at the same temple, Aarti Sarkar, highlighted the significance of the ritual, describing Sindoor Khela not merely as a custom but as a way to strengthen harmony and bonds among women. She added that while applying the vermilion, devotees prayed to the goddess for the health and longevity of their families.
As part of the immersion tradition, a colorful boat procession was organized on the Chhota Jamuna River in Naogaon city. Decked-out boats began receiving idols in the afternoon before setting off for the scheduled water rally, leading up to the evening immersion that marks the end of the Sharadiya Durga Puja festival.
According to the District Puja Udjapan Parishad, Durga Puja was celebrated this year across 836 pandals in Naogaon district in a peaceful and festive atmosphere.

Play resumed 15 minutes earlier than scheduled on day three of the second Test between South Africa and Australia at St George’s Park in Gqeberha, following two days heavily disrupted by rain. With sunny conditions and temperatures reaching 20 degrees Celsius, South Africa restarted their first innings from 97 for 5, looking to recover lost ground after only 43 overs were possible over the opening two days.
Scott Boland, who took four wickets for 31 runs across the first two days, opened the bowling attack alongside Australian captain Pat Cummins. Boland quickly tested South African captain Temba Bavuma and Wiaan Mulder, though Mulder managed early boundaries, including a deflection off Boland’s fielding attempt at fine leg to bring up South Africa’s hundred.
Australia broke through in the 50th over when Mitchell Starc delivered a targeted bouncer to Mulder. After facing five full-pitched deliveries, Mulder was squared up by the short ball, deflecting a blow off his glove and helmet to slip. Although the on-field umpire initially ruled no edge, a review requested by Starc and Matt Renshaw confirmed the contact via soundwave analysis, leaving South Africa at 110 for 6.
Marco Jansen joined Bavuma at the crease and took an aggressive approach. Jansen hit several quick boundaries, including an on-drive off Boland and a straight drive over long-off for six. Bavuma remained composed at the other end, reaching his half-century with a glance to the leg-side boundary off Starc in the 54th over.
Josh Hazlewood was restricted from bowling early in the session due to regulations regarding time spent off the field due to illness on day two. As a result, Cummins and Starc rotated the bowling duties before the drinks break, with Boland continuing his spell from the opposite end.
Jansen continued his counter-attack against Cummins, pulling a short ball just over the boundary fielder at deep square leg for six. In the 60th over, Cummins nearly bowled Jansen with a late yorker that narrowly missed the off stump, leaving South Africa at 173 for 6, with Bavuma on 61 and Jansen on 44.

Bangladesh Under-15 football team captain Fahim Hasan has stated that his side aims to finish as group champions in the upcoming FIFA U-15 Festival and World Cup taking place in Azerbaijan.
For the first time, world football’s governing body FIFA has expanded the Under-15 Festival into a global event. A total of 191 countries are participating in the tournament, divided into 32 groups.
Bangladesh have been placed in Group C alongside Wales, Portugal, Burundi, Indonesia, and Fiji. Under the tournament format, only the champions from each of the 32 groups will advance to the knockout stage, while the remaining teams will move to the plate competition.
Despite facing tough opponents like Wales and Portugal, Bangladesh captain Fahim Hasan expressed confidence in his team’s ability. He noted that their preparation has been solid and that they are ready to put up a strong fight in every match to top the group.
Head coach Akbar Hossain Ridon shared details about the tournament setup, explaining that matches will feature two halves of 20 minutes each with eight-player squads. Bangladesh will play two matches per day on October 25 and 26. He added that the squad trained for nearly three months specifically adapted to this schedule.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Huq, who is a former captain of the Bangladesh national football team, visited the players at the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) house to encourage them. Reminiscing about his own early playing days, he highlighted the significant opportunity for young players to compete against strong international sides like Wales and Portugal.
During the meeting, captain Fahim requested better quality football boots for the team. Responding to the request, the State Minister announced that he would provide quality boots for all squad members and specialized gloves for the two goalkeepers, promising further rewards if the team performs well in the tournament.

Bangladesh ODI captain Litton Das has received encouraging news regarding his hip injury from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) medical team. Scans have revealed no significant structural issues following his exclusion from the ongoing ODI tri-series, offering hope that the wicketkeeper-batter will be fit for the upcoming Test series against the West Indies.
A official from the BCB medical department told cricket website Cricbuzz on Monday that while the scan results were largely reassuring, Litton still has a minor muscle issue. Medical personnel plan to observe his condition over the next few days before making a definitive assessment regarding his return to competitive action.
Litton visited the medical team at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Monday, where he underwent light physiotherapy. Additional physiotherapy sessions are scheduled for Tuesday as part of his ongoing rehabilitation program.
A member of the BCB medical committee confirmed that no major problems were detected in Litton’s hip joint. However, two days of observation following the initial treatment will be required to get a clearer understanding of his recovery progress.
The medical team emphasized that no final decision regarding his participation will be taken without monitoring his full recovery timeline. Despite the cautious approach, BCB officials remain optimistic about his availability for the Test matches against the visiting Caribbean side.
Litton was originally set to lead Bangladesh in the ongoing tri-series featuring Afghanistan and Zimbabwe, but hip joint discomfort ruled him out of the tournament. In his absence, Towhid Hridoy was handed the captaincy duties for the team.
The two-match Test series between Bangladesh and the West Indies is scheduled to begin on October 28 in Dhaka. The second and final Test will be held in Sylhet starting November 5. Prior to the Test series, the visiting West Indies team will play a two-day warm-up match against a BCB XI starting October 22 at the Bashundhara Anvir Cricket Stadium.

The opening day of the second Test match between South Africa and Australia at St George’s Park in Gqeberha was delayed by rain on Sunday. Australia captain Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bowl first under damp conditions, opting to unleash a four-man pace attack.
Australia currently hold a 1-0 lead in the series following their victory in the first Test in Durban. Capitalizing on the moist morning pitch, Cummins made the bold tactical call to omit specialist spinner Nathan Lyon and bring in fast bowler Scott Boland alongside Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and himself.
Steve Smith was cleared to play for Australia despite suffering a head knock during the Durban Test. The Australian batting lineup also features Nic Maddinson, Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, Matt Renshaw, Alex Carey, and Beau Webster.
South Africa made several major changes to their squad in an effort to draw level in the series. Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada returned to the side after recovering from a hamstring injury, while mature-age batter Marques Ackerman was handed his Test debut to open the innings alongside Aiden Markram.
The Proteas also brought Matthew Breetzke into the batting order, with Ryan Rickelton taking over wicketkeeping duties as Kyle Verreyne and Tristan Stubbs were left out. In another key selection decision, off-spinner Simon Harmer was preferred over senior left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj.
Ground staff covered the pitch as drizzle returned just before the scheduled start of play. Match officials scheduled a pitch inspection as both teams waited for conditions to clear in Gqeberha.

Manchester City extended their flawless start to the Premier League season on Saturday with a 3-2 home victory against Ipswich Town, becoming only the third team in Premier League history to win their opening seven fixtures. The result leaves City six points clear at the top of the table despite ongoing legal disputes off the pitch following findings of financial breaches by the Premier League.
Striker Erling Haaland scored twice during the match, taking his tally for the domestic campaign to eight goals. His performance also made him the fastest player in Premier League history to reach 100 non-penalty goals, achieving the milestone in 139 matches. The victory marks back-to-back league wins for Manchester City following their recent 4-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
The match took place amid continued fan protests against the Premier League’s findings, with supporters at the Etihad Stadium jeering the league anthem and displaying inflatable bananas in a show of defiance. City manager Enzo Maresca, who joined the club in the close season to replace Pep Guardiola, praised the unity between the squad and the fanbase. Maresca also achieved a league record of his own by becoming the first manager to win his first seven Premier League games.
Injury concerns emerged for Manchester City at the final whistle as both Haaland and second-half substitute Antoine Semenyo were seen limping off the pitch. Haaland suffered a blow to his foot late in the contest, though Maresca indicated the forward felt fine after the match. However, the manager noted that Semenyo’s injury appeared to be more serious and would require assessment.
Elsewhere in the Premier League, Liverpool secured a 2-1 comeback victory away against a nine-man Brentford side. After trailing to a Keane Lewis-Potter header, Liverpool gained an advantage when Brentford’s Yehor Yarmoliuk was sent off for a head-butt in first-half stoppage time. Victor Munoz and Alexander Isak scored in the second half to secure the win for Liverpool, while Brentford’s Vitaly Janelt was also sent off late in the game following a second yellow card.
Despite the win, Liverpool suffered further squad setbacks as Dominik Szoboszlai and Jeremie Frimpong were both forced off due to injuries. Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola confirmed that Szoboszlai experienced a recurrence of a hamstring issue previously sustained during international duty with Hungary.
In other fixtures, Aston Villa secured a 1-0 away victory against Newcastle United at St James’ Park. Twenty-one-year-old Swiss midfielder Johan Manzambi scored the decisive goal, marking his third goal in four appearances. Meanwhile, Fulham recorded their first league win of the season under manager Alvaro Arbeloa, defeating Hull City 1-0 courtesy of a 33rd-minute strike from Alex Iwobi to move off the bottom of the table.

A busy day of English football features key Premier League encounters across the country, starting with Everton hosting Chelsea at Hill Dickinson Stadium in the early kickoff. Other top-flight fixtures on the schedule include Manchester City taking on Ipswich, Brentford facing Liverpool, Fulham hosting Hull City, and Newcastle facing Aston Villa in the late match.
Ahead of Chelsea’s kickoff on Merseyside, manager Xabi Alonso spoke about the necessity for his team to tighten up defensively. Chelsea have conceded 13 goals so far this season, which is more than double the number conceded by Everton. Alonso must also manage the squad without captain Reece James, who is sidelined for three months following knee surgery for an injury sustained in training.
Despite the defensive concerns, Alonso is looking to build on Chelsea’s 5-1 victory over Bournemouth from last weekend. He emphasized that while clean sheets are crucial for winning trophies, finding the right balance between attack and defence remains a work in progress early in the campaign.
In other Premier League news, Leeds United manager Daniel Farke mounted a strong defence of Manchester United manager Michael Carrick, calling the recent criticism directed at him undeserved. Carrick secured Champions League qualification with a third-placed finish last season after replacing Ruben Amorim on an interim basis in January, earning a permanent two-year deal in May.
Farke highlighted Carrick’s achievements at Middlesbrough and his work steadying Manchester United, arguing that early-season pressure after just six games is unfair to a promising young manager. Farke’s Leeds side are set to face Manchester United at Elland Road on Sunday.
In Friday night action, Wolves secured a 2-1 comeback win over Burnley at Turf Moor. Jamie Vardy scored his first goal of the season to put the Clarets ahead, but goals from Fernando Lopez and Tawanda Chirewa turned the match in favour of Wolves, lifting them into the playoff positions.
In the Women’s Super League, Arsenal face Birmingham at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners have endured a slow start to the season and currently sit 10th in the table. They face further challenges following the news that key midfielder Mariona Caldentey will miss approximately two months due to a hamstring injury.
