Rashed Khan, General Secretary of Gono Odhikar Parishad, has claimed that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami leaders held a meeting with Indian intelligence agencies and high-ranking government officials in a third country prior to the national election.

He made these comments in response to a recent remark by Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, who alleged that BNP was attempting to return in the form of the Awami League alongside India.

Addressing the Jamaat leader's statement, Rashed Khan said that while Mia Golam Parwar accused BNP of collaborating with India, Jamaat itself had engaged in discussions with Indian officials abroad before the parliamentary election took place.

He further alleged that Jamaat-e-Islami maintains communication with India behind the scenes while taking an anti-India posture publicly to engage in political rhetoric.

Rashed Khan asserted that BNP, Jamaat, and Gono Odhikar Parishad had jointly struggled for seventeen years to dismantle fascist rule and secure democratic rights for the people of Bangladesh.

He expressed concern that division among pro-uprising political forces could jeopardize the national unity formed after the August 5 mass uprising and potentially pave the way for the return of fascism.

He urged all political parties to abandon the tendency to blame one another and called for unity to rebuild the country and preserve the gains of the movement.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially approved the pre-season roadmap for the 12th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 12), announcing key dates for direct player signings and the player auction.

According to the announced schedule, direct signings for all eight franchises have commenced, with teams given until November 23 to complete the process. Each franchise will be allowed to sign one marquee player directly, provided that the player did not participate in PSL 10 or PSL 11.

The player auction for PSL 12 is scheduled to take place on January 23, 2027. PSL 12 itself is set to run from March 18 to May 2, 2027. The tournament will feature 44 matches played over 46 days across venues in five to six different cities in Pakistan.

A franchise workshop will be held next week to finalize key rules and guidelines. This session will address player retentions, the pre-auction trade window, auction rules, and playing conditions. The PCB plans to announce further details regarding retentions, trades, and auction regulations in the coming weeks.

To strengthen the domestic cricket structure, the PCB has aligned its domestic season with the PSL pre-season schedule. The National T20 Gold and National T20 Silver tournaments will serve as key platforms for identifying emerging talent prior to the PSL 12 player auction, offering top domestic performers a direct pathway to franchise cricket and national team selection.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi described the upcoming edition as the league's biggest and most ambitious season yet, emphasizing that PSL remains the flagship stage for Pakistan cricket. He noted that bringing matches to more cities than before will bring the action closer to fans.

PSL Chief Executive Salman Naseer highlighted that playing across five to six venues marks a first in the league's history. He stated that the race to build top squads has begun, adding that direct signings, trades, and retention decisions will shape the upcoming season.

Gold prices continued their downward trend in the global market on Friday, placing the precious metal on track for its largest weekly price fall in more than four months.

International market data shows that spot gold prices dropped by 0.3 percent on Friday, falling to 2,683.99 dollars per ounce. Earlier in the session, prices had touched a low of 2,670.30 dollars per ounce.

Over the course of the week, gold prices in the global market have declined by 1.3 percent. Financial analysts attribute this persistent slump to rising United States Treasury yields and a strengthening US dollar.

The benchmark US 10-year Treasury yield rose to a three-week high on Friday, while the US dollar index climbed toward a one-week high. A stronger dollar makes gold more expensive for holders of other currencies, dampening international demand.

Market participants also noted that investor appetite for safe-haven assets has softened following easing geopolitical tensions in certain regions. Meanwhile, global stock markets saw modest gains, further shifting capital away from non-yielding assets like bullion.

Following the significant drops in the international market, domestic gold prices in Bangladesh were revised downward. The Bangladesh Jewelers Association (BAJUS) announced updated prices to reflect global market conditions.

Under the newly adjusted rates, the price of 22-carat gold in Bangladesh has been reduced, bringing relief to local consumers and jewelers who closely monitor international price trends.

Jewelry industry leaders in Bangladesh stated that domestic prices are directly linked to international fluctuations and local supply dynamics. They added that further adjustments could be made depending on how the global gold market behaves in the coming days.

The government is working toward reopening all fertilizer factories across the country in an effort to save substantial foreign currency spent on urea imports, according to Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) Chairman Md. Babul Miah.

He made the remarks on Thursday afternoon while responding to questions from journalists following an inspection of the Ashuganj Fertilizer Factory.

The Ashuganj Fertilizer Factory has remained shut down since March 1 last year due to an acute gas shortage. However, the BCIC chairman expressed optimism that gas supply could be secured within this year to restart production at the facility.

Babul Miah highlighted that Bangladesh currently has to import around 2.6 million to 2.7 million metric tons of urea fertilizer annually to meet domestic demand. He stated that if the national factories remain operational and receive adequate gas supply, the country would not only meet its internal demand but also possess the capacity to export fertilizer.

He noted that the primary challenge facing the sector is the ongoing gas deficit. He emphasized that the government is actively addressing the issue to ensure steady gas supply and bring the plants back online, which would eventually eliminate the need for fertilizer imports.

During the visit, Ashuganj Fertilizer Factory Managing Director Sheikh Md. Ali Ashraf, Deputy General Manager (Administration) Tajul Islam, and other senior factory officials accompanied the BCIC chairman.

Bournemouth surged to a 2-0 first-half lead over AC Milan in their UEFA Europa League clash, taking control after a dramatic incident led to a red card for Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan and a second penalty for the English side.

The home side put early pressure on the Italian giants, with Justin Kluivert threatening the Milan goal twice in the opening minutes. Kluivert was first dispossessed in the penalty box before firing another effort directly at Maignan following an error in Milan's attempt to play out from the back.

The match exploded into action around the 26th minute when Maignan parried a deflected shot from Bournemouth defender James Hill. Following the play, Maignan clashed with Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams at the resulting corner, pushing him in the face. The referee issued a straight red card, which was subsequently confirmed by a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review.

Following Maignan's dismissal, Milan manager Ruben Amorim brought on 21-year-old replacement goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani, withdrawing Omari Hutchinson to make space for the substitute keeper.

Marcus Tavernier stepped up to convert the resulting penalty, extending Bournemouth's lead to 2-0. Bournemouth continued to dominate the first half, creating further chances through Adrien Truffert, Ben Gannon-Doak, and a Tavernier free-kick that narrowly missed the top corner.

At the half-time whistle, Bournemouth held a commanding 2-0 advantage over a ten-man Milan side, while other UEFA Europa League fixtures also reached the interval across Europe.

In other matches across the competition, Besiktas secured a 1-0 lead over Crystal Palace thanks to a stoppage-time goal from Wilfrid Ndidi in the 47th minute. Real Sociedad took a convincing 3-0 lead over Lillestrom, powered by a double from Sergio Gomez.

Elsewhere, Celtic and Celta Vigo remained deadlocked at 0-0 at half-time, while Olympiacos and Sparta Prague also held a goalless scoreline. Anderlecht led Jagiellonia Bialystock 1-0, Salzburg took a 1-0 advantage over Celje, and Levski Sofia led Viktoria Plzen 1-0.

In Cyprus, Omonia Nicosia held Benfica to a 1-1 draw at the break after Claudio Echeverri opened the scoring for Benfica in the 14th minute. Meanwhile, Hoffenheim carried a 1-0 lead into half-time against Lyon after extended first-half stoppage time.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced full federal backing and resources for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), assuring that the central government and Field Marshal General Asim Munir will work dedicatedly for the province's development. The announcement came during a meeting of the Development Council and tribal elders representing the merged tribal districts, which was attended by both the Prime Minister and Field Marshal Asim Munir.

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the tribal elders and acknowledged their steadfast support for Pakistan. He highlighted the extensive sacrifices made by tribal communities due to terrorism, expressing deep respect for their contributions. Reflecting on regional challenges, he remarked that developmental progress in the province had stalled amid rampant corruption and rising terrorism over the past 13 years.

The Prime Minister detailed that prior to the meeting, a two-and-a-half-hour discussion was held regarding developmental projects, police capacity, and administrative matters. To support these initiatives, the federal government will provide PKR 160 billion for development work in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He emphasized the need to enhance police capabilities and expedite Safe City projects, promising full federal assistance for counter-terrorism efforts.

Regarding food security, Shehbaz Sharif assured that wheat supplies from PASCO stores would be made available to meet the province's needs. He instructed the Provincial Governor to ensure that wheat is distributed at federally controlled prices without any hoarding or artificial shortages.

The Prime Minister severely criticized corruption in the province, citing a major PKR 100 billion scandal involving drinking water projects and a PKR 37 billion fraud case in Kohistan. He pledged strict measures against the corruption that has targeted provincial resources, promising that every rupee would be directed toward public welfare.

During the meeting, tribal elders thanked the Prime Minister for prioritizing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's situation and expressed full cooperation in resolving regional problems. They urged that the Development Council be empowered to effectively address local issues, noting that residents had suffered under severe governance challenges for over a decade.

Concluding his address, Shehbaz Sharif stated that the federal government, along with the advisory council, governor, and elected tribal representatives, would urgently implement structural changes and push delayed projects to rapid completion.
