Fake Doctor Arrested in Brahmanbaria, Four Private Hospitals Fined Over One Lakh Taka

A mobile court in Brahmanbaria has fined four private hospitals and diagnostic centers a total of Tk 115,000 for various irregularities and licensing issues. During the drive, a physiotherapist impersonating a doctor was arrested and sentenced to three days in jail.

The operation was carried out on Sunday (June 29) afternoon under the leadership of Brahmanbaria Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sifat Mohammad Istiyak, in collaboration with the district health department.

During the raid, the mobile court sealed off PSP Physiotherapy and Laser Therapy Center in Maulvipara and arrested therapist Swapan Chandra Saha for impersonating a doctor and treating patients. The center was fined Tk 30,000, and Swapan Chandra Saha was sentenced to three days in jail for obstructing the mobile court’s operations.

Meanwhile, Popular Diagnostic Center was fined Tk 50,000 due to lack of proper documentation and an unhygienic environment. The authorities also ordered the facility to be relocated from its current underground location within two months.

Al Khalil Hospital and Diagnostic Center, located on Jail Road, was fined Tk 15,000 for operating without approval from the Department of Environment. Similarly, Global Hospital and Diagnostic Center was fined Tk 20,000 for lacking necessary authorization documents.

Speaking to journalists, UNO Sifat Mohammad Istiyak said, “There are many illegal clinics and fake doctors in Brahmanbaria. Today’s operation was part of our efforts to curb such malpractice. One fake doctor has been jailed and fined, while four institutions have been penalized.”

Present during the operation were Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Md. Mostafizur Rahman, Medical Officers Dr. Md. Raihan Talukder and Dr. Md. Ismail Bhuiyan Rahat, Sanitary Inspector and acting District Supervisor Md. Shafiur Rahman, Sadar Health Inspector Md. Monirul Islam, and representatives from the Brahmanbaria Gonodhikar Parishad, including Engineer Fakhruddin, Md. Shibir Ahmed Bhuiyan, and Shah Alam.

According to the district administration and health department, such drives will continue regularly, and strict action will be taken against unauthorized and irregular healthcare institutions.
