MBA Student of China Agricultural University
Learning Business, Culture, and Professionalism Through an Internship in China
For an international student studying in China, classroom learning provides important academic knowledge, but working inside a Chinese company offers a completely different perspective on business, management, and professional life. My two-month internship at Shanghai Agrist Corp., Ltd., from July to August 2026, gave me an opportunity to experience the Chinese workplace closely and connect my MBA studies with practical business activities.
As an MBA student at China Agricultural University, my internship was mainly related to the Supply Chain and Logistics Management Department. During this period, I was able to observe the company’s daily operations, understand its products and services, participate in organizational activities, and communicate with colleagues and international visitors.
Experiencing a Professional Chinese Workplace
One of the most valuable parts of my internship was experiencing how a Chinese company organizes its daily work. I observed that employees paid considerable attention to punctuality, responsibility, teamwork, and completing assigned tasks efficiently.
The working environment also showed me the importance of coordination. Different employees and departments needed to communicate with each other to complete tasks smoothly. I learned that even a small responsibility can contribute to a larger organizational objective.
During my internship, I also participated in meetings and company activities. On one occasion, the chairman held a meeting with employees and interns, which gave me an opportunity to observe leadership and communication within the organization. These experiences helped me understand that corporate culture is not only expressed through formal policies but also through everyday communication and teamwork.
Connecting Technology with Business
My academic background is in computer science and technology, while I am now pursuing an MBA. Therefore, one of the most interesting aspects of the internship was seeing the connection between technology and business.
Shanghai Agrist works in the agricultural technology sector, where modern technologies are used to improve agricultural production and management. Through my internship, I became more interested in how technology can create business value, improve operational efficiency, and support customers.
I also gained experience in product-related activities, business communication, market research, and preparing and translating business materials. These activities helped me understand that successful technology businesses require not only technical knowledge but also marketing, supply chain management, customer communication, and strategic decision-making.
Learning Through International Communication
Another memorable experience was meeting international visitors during my internship. For example, a group of Brazilian college students visited the company. I spent time with them, helped them move around the factory, and communicated with them about our experiences.
This experience reminded me that modern Chinese companies are increasingly connected with international markets. Working with people from different countries requires patience, communication skills, cultural understanding, and openness to different perspectives.
As an international student, I found this particularly valuable. It allowed me to improve my confidence in professional communication while also learning how Chinese companies interact with international visitors and potential business partners.
Understanding Chinese Corporate Culture
Before my internship, my understanding of Chinese corporate culture mainly came from academic studies and everyday life in China. After working in a Chinese company, I developed a more practical understanding.
One important lesson was the value placed on discipline and responsibility. Employees are expected to take their work seriously and complete their responsibilities properly. I also observed the importance of teamwork and coordination, especially when several people are involved in the same project.
Another aspect I noticed was the relationship between leadership and employees. Meetings and discussions provided opportunities for employees to understand organizational goals and responsibilities. I learned that effective workplace communication is important for maintaining coordination and achieving common objectives.
At the same time, I realized that Chinese corporate culture is diverse. Different companies have different management styles, working environments, and organizational practices. Therefore, my experience represents my personal observations in one company rather than a description of every Chinese workplace.
Personal Growth and Reflection
The internship also helped me develop personally. At the beginning, I was mainly focused on learning the company’s products and understanding my assigned responsibilities. As the internship continued, I became more comfortable communicating with colleagues, participating in activities, and handling different tasks.
I learned that professional development requires more than academic knowledge. Punctuality, communication, teamwork, willingness to learn, adaptability, and responsibility are equally important in the workplace.
My internship certificate also recognizes my active participation in team coordination and organizational activities, as well as my willingness to learn and professional attitude. These qualities are important lessons that I will carry forward in my future academic and professional life.
A Bridge Between Two Worlds
For me, the internship was more than a temporary work experience. It was a bridge between my academic education and the real business world. It allowed me to understand how management concepts are applied in practice and how technology, people, operations, and business strategy work together.
As a Bangladeshi student studying for an MBA in China, the experience also helped me appreciate the importance of cross-cultural business understanding. China and Bangladesh have growing economic and business connections, particularly in areas such as technology, manufacturing, agriculture, trade, and supply chains. Understanding how Chinese companies operate can therefore be valuable for international students who hope to work across these markets.
Looking Ahead
My two-month internship at Shanghai Agrist Corp., Ltd. has become an important part of my MBA journey. It strengthened my understanding of supply chains and business operations while giving me practical exposure to the Chinese workplace.
Most importantly, the experience taught me that successful business is built not only on technology or capital but also on people, teamwork, communication, responsibility, continuous learning, and the ability to work across cultures.
The internship has encouraged me to continue developing my knowledge at the intersection of technology and business management. I hope to use these experiences in my future career and contribute to stronger business cooperation between China, Bangladesh, and other international markets.
