A police officer is currently being treated in hospital after being shot in Nottingham city centre early on Sunday morning, according to Nottinghamshire Police.

The incident occurred in Angel Row at approximately 04:50 BST on Sunday when the officer approached two suspects in the area.

During the interaction, the officer sustained a gunshot wound to his foot. He was subsequently transported to a hospital for medical treatment.

Detectives investigating the shooting confirmed that a firearm was recovered at the scene. However, both suspects—a man and a woman—managed to flee the location immediately following the incident.

Angel Row has been closed off to the public, and a large police scene remains active as officers conduct their investigation into the shooting.

Nottinghamshire Police Assistant Chief Constable Claire Rukas described the shooting as a shocking incident and a sobering reminder of the inherent dangers police officers face while working to protect the public.

She stated that her thoughts are with the injured officer, his family, and his colleagues while law enforcement works to determine the full circumstances and apprehend those responsible.

Police authorities have urged anyone with additional information regarding the incident or the suspects to contact investigators without delay, noting that even minor details could be crucial to the investigation.
