Prime Minister Orders Suspension of Doctor Caught Smoking in Office at Agargaon Children’s Hospital
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman ordered the immediate suspension of a doctor at the Bangladesh Shishu Hospital and Institute in Agargaon after finding him smoking in an unclean office during a surprise visit.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman expressed strong dissatisfaction and ordered the immediate dismissal of a doctor after finding him smoking inside his office during a surprise visit to the Bangladesh Shishu Hospital and Institute in Agargaon, Dhaka.
The Prime Minister visited the pediatric hospital on Saturday afternoon to inspect various departments, the work environment for medical staff, and overall cleanliness across the facility.
According to Assistant Press Secretary to the Prime Minister AKM Nazmul Huq, the Prime Minister walked into the office of Associate Professor Rafiqul Islam during the visit and caught him smoking in an unhygienic environment.
The Prime Minister expressed anger upon witnessing such behavior from a medical professional and observing unclean conditions within a major healthcare institution.
Following the incident, the Prime Minister directed Professor Dr. A K M Azizul Huq, Chairman of the hospital’s Management Board, to take swift disciplinary action against the physician involved.
In response to the Prime Minister’s directive, Associate Professor Rafiqul Islam was placed under temporary suspension.
During his visit, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy and clean environment in hospitals and urged all doctors and staff members to discharge their duties with utmost responsibility.
