চট্টগ্রাম নগরের বায়েজিদ বোস্তামী থানাধীন রৌফাবাদ এলাকায় স্ত্রীকে নৃশংসভাবে হত্যার পর লাশ ১১ টুকরো করে গুম করার ঘটনায় ঘাতক স্বামী সুমনকে (৩৫) গ্রেফতার  করেছে র‌্যাব।

শুক্রবার (১১ জুলাই) রাতে ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া জেলার বিজয়নগর থানাধীন ফুলবাড়িয়া এলাকায় অভিযান চালিয়ে তাকে গ্রেফতার করা হয়। গ্রেফতার সুমন কুমিল্লা জেলার সদর দক্ষিণ থানাধীন সুয়াগাজী এলাকার সুন্দর আলীর ছেলে।

এর আগে বুধবার (৯ জুলাই) দিবাগত রাত দেড়টার দিকে পাহাড়িকা হাউজিংয়ের এফজেড টাওয়ারের ১০ তলার একটি ফ্ল্যাট থেকে ফাতেমা বেগম পলি (৩২) খণ্ডিত লাশ উদ্ধার করে পুলিশ। তিনি ওই ফ্ল্যাটেই স্বামী সুমনের সঙ্গে থাকতেন। সুমন পেশায় গাড়িচালক। ফাতেমার বাড়ি কুমিল্লা সদর দক্ষিণে। তার বাবার নাম কামাল উদ্দিন। তাদের সিফাত নামে আট বছরের একটি ছেলে সন্তান আছে।

গ্রেফতারের বিষয়টি শনিবার (১২ জুলাই) বেলা ১১টায় র‌্যাব-৭ এর চান্দগাঁও ক্যাম্প (বহদ্দারহাট) মিডিয়া সেন্টারে প্রেস ব্রিফিং করে জানিয়েছেন র‌্যাব-৭ এর অধিনায়ক লে. কর্নেল হাফিজুর রহমান।

এতে তিনি বলেন, গত ৯ জুলাই চট্টগ্রাম নগরের বায়েজিদ বোস্তামী থানাধীন রৌফাবাদ পাহাড়িকা হাউজিং সোসাইটির একটি ফ্ল্যাট বাসার ভেতরে ধারালো অস্ত্র দিয়ে নৃশংসভাবে কুপিয়ে নিজ স্ত্রী ফাতেমা বেগম পলিকে হত্যা করা হয়। হত্যার পর লাশ ১১ টুকরো করে ঘরের বিভিন্ন স্থানে ফেলে রেখে গুম করার চেষ্টা করে ঘাতক স্বামী। পরে সিকিউরিটি গার্ড মশিউর রহমান ফ্ল্যাট বাসা থেকে দুর্গন্ধ ও অস্বাভাবিক নড়াচড়া এবং পানির ফ্লাশের শব্দ শুনে ১০ম তলায় ওই ফ্ল্যাটে গিয়ে ডাকাডাকি করলে প্রায় ৩০ মিনিটি পর সুমন বাসার দরজা খুলে এবং বাসায় অস্বাভাবিক নড়াচড়ার ও পানির শব্দের বিষয়ে জিজ্ঞাসা করলে এলোমেলো কথাবার্তা বলে ও তাকে বাসায় প্রবেশ করতে বাধা প্রদান করে। সিকিউরিটি গার্ড মশিউর রহমান জোরপূর্বক বাসায় ঢুকে রুমের বিভিন্ন স্থানে রক্তের দাগ, বাথরুমের ভেতরে রক্তমাখা কাপড় ও কমেডে মাংস দেখতে পান।

র‍্যাব কর্মকর্তা বলেন, বাসার বাইর থেকে তালাবদ্ধ করে স্থানীয়দের সহায়তার জন্য নিচে গেলে ঘাতক সুমন কৌশলে বাসার গ্রিল ভেঙে পালিয়ে যায়। পরে সিকিউরিটি গার্ড মশিউর এবং স্থানীয় লোকজন বায়েজিদ থানা পুলিশকে খবর দিলে থানা পুলিশ ঘটনাস্থল থেকে ভুক্তভোগীর ক্ষত-বিক্ষত শরীরের অংশ বিশেষ এবং রুমের খাটের নিচ থেকে পায়ের অংশ উদ্ধার করে।

তিনি বলেন, এ ঘটনায় ভিকটিমের বড় ভাই মোহাম্মদ আনোয়ার হোসেন রুবেল বাদী হয়ে নগরের বায়েজিদ বোস্তামী থানায় ঘাতক সুমনের নাম উল্লেখ করে একটি মামলার দায়ের করেন। প্রাথমিক জিজ্ঞাসাবাদে গ্রেফতার সুমন র‌্যাবকে জানিয়েছে, গত ১০ বছর আগে পারিবারিকভাবে তারা বিয়ে করেন। বিয়ে পরবর্তী সময়ে আসামি সুমন কর্মসংস্থানের জন্য সৌদি আরব যায়। সেখানে ভিসা সংক্রান্ত জটিলতার কারণে গত বছরের মাঝামাঝি সময়ে দেশে ফিরে এসে নগরীতে পিকআপ গাড়ি চালাতে শুরু করে। দেশে ফিরে আসার পর থেকে স্বামী-স্ত্রীর মধ্যে প্রায় সময় ঝগড়া বিবাদ লেগে থাকতো। গত ৯ জুলাই রাতে অজ্ঞাত ৬ থেকে ৭ জন যুবক তার বাসায় আসাকে কেন্দ্র করে তাদের মধ্যে বাগবিতণ্ডার সৃষ্টি হয়। বাগবিতণ্ডার এক পর্যায়ে ঘাতক সুমন বাসায় থাকা দুটি ধারালো চাকু দিয়ে স্ত্রীর শরীরের বিভিন্ন স্থানে আঘাত করে গুরুতর জখম করে মৃত্যু নিশ্চিত করে। পরে লাশ গুম করার উদ্দেশ্যে ১১ টুকরো করে বাথরুমের কমেডে দিয়ে পানির ফ্লাশের সঙ্গে ভাসিয়ে দেওয়ার চেষ্টা করে বলে স্বীকার করে।

In the other, a man was beaten to death in broad daylight on a busy street in Old Dhaka, allegedly for refusing to pay extortion money. These are not just isolated crimes; they are horrifying indicators of the deep moral and institutional decay that plagues our society and state.

The first incident occurred in Chattogram’s Patiya upazila, where a man reportedly stabbed an imam in the throat, neck, and arms while he was praying after Esha prayers. The attack, carried out in front of worshippers, highlights a terrifying collapse of sanctity and safety even within places of worship. A mosque—traditionally a space for peace, introspection, and spiritual refuge—has now become a site of violence.

The second, even more chilling, occurred in Old Dhaka. A local shopkeeper, reportedly targeted by extortionists, was publicly lynched by a group of men. Bystanders stood in silence as the assault unfolded, with some recording the incident on their phones rather than intervening. The footage later went viral on social media, sparking outrage. But we must ask: can online outrage alone prevent such crimes?

These incidents serve as a grim mirror, reflecting where we have arrived as a society. Family values are eroding. Educational institutions are failing to instill moral integrity. Children are growing up exposed to violent video games, while teenagers are influenced by viral content that glorifies aggression. Adults, too, often choose to look the other way rather than intervene. Meanwhile, the state fails to ensure justice—either due to inefficiency or political interference.

Under Bangladeshi law, both extortion and desecration of religious spaces are criminal offences. Yet perpetrators are often unnamed, unidentified, or simply unpunished. A 2024 report by the Bangladesh Human Rights Commission found that nearly 60% of violent crimes that year did not result in visible legal action. This culture of impunity only emboldens criminals further.

What is perhaps most alarming is our collective indifference. These acts of cruelty unfold in front of our eyes, yet no one steps forward. We record, we share, we react online—but we do not resist. This detachment is symptomatic of a broader societal breakdown. If left unaddressed, we risk raising a generation that is emotionally desensitized, morally adrift, and dangerously indifferent.

To reverse this dangerous trend, both state and society must act with urgency:

• Swift and Exemplary Justice: Legal processes must be made faster, transparent, and impartial.
• Moral Education: Curricula must include teachings of empathy, ethics, and civic responsibility.
• Accountable Law Enforcement: The police must be empowered to act independently, free from political influence.
• Social Awareness and Activism: Civil society, media, and NGOs must work to rebuild public conscience and communal vigilance.

Those who stab imams or kill over extortion today may commit even greater atrocities tomorrow—unless we act decisively. Restoring humanity, enforcing justice, and nurturing moral resilience is not just necessary—it is urgent. If we fail, we will soon find ourselves in a society where survival is not a right, but a fragile hope.

Delowar Hossain Mahdi : The people of Sarail in Brahmanbaria bid a tearful farewell to Moyna Akter, a 9-year-old madrasa student who fell victim to a brutal murder. On Monday (July 7), after the Asr prayer, her funeral prayer was held at the Shahbazpur playground, where hundreds of grief-stricken mourners gathered. She was later buried at the local cemetery.

The funeral was held after Moyna’s father, expatriate Abdur Razzak, returned to the country. A cloud of sorrow blanketed the area as locals, along with leaders from various political, social, and religious organizations, joined in the janazah (funeral prayer).

In a brief speech prior to the funeral, Brahmanbaria District BNP General Secretary Sirajul Islam Siraj said, “Such a heinous act of murder is completely unacceptable. The real perpetrators must be arrested and brought to justice without delay. However, the authorities must also ensure that no innocent person is harassed in the process.”

He further added that the BNP district unit stands in solidarity with the victim’s family and will continue to provide legal assistance until justice is served.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Moyna’s uncle Selim Mia demanded exemplary punishment for those responsible, stating, “If justice is not served, we will be forced to take to the streets with the people.”

Other notable attendees at the funeral included:

• Md. Anwar Hossain Master, former General Secretary of Sarail Upazila BNP and member of the District BNP,
• Advocate Nuruzzaman Laskar Topu, current General Secretary of Sarail Upazila BNP and Legal Affairs Secretary of District BNP,
• Advocate Abdur Rahman, former Upazila Chairman,
• Maulana Moinul Islam Khondoker, the Khilafat Majlish-nominated candidate for the Sarail constituency,
• Mufti Burhanuddin Kasemi, Senior Vice President of Hefazat-e-Islam Brahmanbaria district unit,
  along with many respected locals and devout worshippers.

Earlier on Sunday morning (July 6), Moyna’s bloodied body was found in a room on the second floor of the Shahbazpur Habli Para Jame Mosque. She was a student at a local madrasa, and her father works abroad in Bahrain.

Moyna had gone missing on Saturday afternoon while returning home from the madrasa. When she didn’t return, her family searched for her and later filed a General Diary (GD) at the Sarail police station that very night.

Sarail Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Morshedul Alam Chowdhury said, “This is an extremely tragic and heartbreaking incident. We are pursuing every possible legal avenue and will bring the culprits to justice as soon as possible.”

এছাড়াও বলেন, কোন বাতিল জালিম অপশক্তি ও তাদের স্বৈরদস্যুতার সমর্থক না হয়ে আত্মিক ও রাজনৈতিক সব দিকে হকের এ শাহাদাতের দিশার ভিত্তিতে চলাই ঈমানী জীবন। তাঁরা বলেন, যা কিছু থেকে মুক্তির জন্য ও যা কিছু রক্ষা এবং প্রতিষ্ঠার জন্য এ শাহাদাত সে আমানত রক্ষা করে চলাই কলেমার অংগীকার ও ঈমানী কর্তব্য।
এ শাহাদাতের দিশা হারিয়ে ফেলা ঈমান-দ্বীন-স্বাধীনতা-অধিকার হারিয়ে ফেলা এবং এ শাহাদাতের লক্ষ্য বাস্তবায়নেই দ্বীন-মিল্লাত-মানবতার অস্তিত্ব ও মুক্তি এবং
বিজয় নিহিত। তাঁরা বলেন, বাতিল মত-পথ-মুলুকিয়তের সহযোগী হয়ে এবীং লক্ষ্যহীন নিছক আনুষ্ঠানিকতায় এ শাহাদাত দিবস পালনের স্বার্থকতা নেই।

পরিশেষে তারা বলেন, সমাবেশে ইসলামের অস্তিত্বের এ ঈমানী শাহাদাত নিয়ে বাতিল শিয়াবাদের বিকৃতি ও ধোকা এবং এজিদপন্থী বাতিল খারেজিদের বিকৃতি ও প্রতারণা সম্পর্কে সতর্ক থাকার আহবান জানান ।

The name of the deceased child is Maina. A day after her disappearance, her lifeless body was found on Sunday morning in a place where people seek peace and salvation. Today, that holy place is filled with a history of hatred, lamentation and inhumanity.

Family members and locals believe that the child was raped and killed. The incident is still under investigation, the police have recovered the body and sent it for autopsy. However, what has been revealed initially has shaken the society more than once. Because this is not just a murder, it is a burning proof of the moral decline of our social system.

When a child is as safe as a mosque, when someone commits a crime like rape or murder, we must understand that there are huge holes in our social values, religious education system, and family morality. In our society, compassion, honesty, and humanity are constantly being crushed by brutality, unforgivable barbarity, and impunity.

We know that this incident is not isolated. Many children like Maina are being tortured in one way or another every day. In many cases, it is not even reported, but is actually lost in the crowd of other news. The question is, should we wait for each heartbreaking incident? Or should we speak out now?

We believe that it is important to ensure a fair investigation and speedy trial of this incident. At the same time, practicing moral education in society, ensuring the safety of children in religious institutions, and developing a culture of caring for children in families are the demand of the hour.

This is not just a child's body—it is a reflection of our conscience. Before another Maina goes missing, we need to wake up. I want justice, but I want more than that—so that no more children in this society lose their childhood in darkness.

জেলা সিভিল সার্জন ডা. মোঃ নোমান মিয়ার স্বাক্ষরে গত ২ জুলাই ২০২৫ তারিখে এ অফিস আদেশ জারি করা হয়।

নিয়মিত দায়িত্বের পাশাপাশি এই অতিরিক্ত প্রশাসনিক দায়িত্ব পাওয়ায় সহকর্মীদের মধ্যে আনন্দ বিরাজ করছে। অনেকেই ফুল দিয়ে শুভেচ্ছা জানান মনিরুল ইসলামকে। এতে কর্মস্থলে এক উৎসবমুখর পরিবেশের সৃষ্টি হয়।

দায়িত্বপ্রাপ্ত মনিরুল ইসলাম এ বিষয়ে প্রতিক্রিয়া জানাতে গিয়ে বলেন,

“ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া সদর উপজেলার একজন স্বাস্থ্য পরিদর্শক হিসেবে আমাকে জেলা স্বাস্থ্য তত্ত্বাবধায়কের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ দায়িত্ব প্রদান করায় সিভিল সার্জন স্যার ডা. মোঃ নোমান মিয়া মহোদয়কে আন্তরিক অভিনন্দন ও চির কৃতজ্ঞতা জানাই। একজন মাঠকর্মী হিসেবে কর্মজীবনের শেষ প্রান্তে এসে এমন সম্মান পাওয়াটা আমার জন্য বিশাল অর্জন। এটি আমার কর্মনিষ্ঠার স্বীকৃতি এবং স্যার মহোদয়ের সহৃদয়তার ফল।”

তিনি আরও বলেন, “এই দায়িত্ব আমাকে আরও সততা ও নিষ্ঠার সঙ্গে কাজ করার অনুপ্রেরণা দেবে। আমি চেষ্টা করব এই আস্থার প্রতিদান দিতে।”

প্রসঙ্গত, মনিরুল ইসলাম দীর্ঘদিন ধরে স্বাস্থ্য অধিদপ্তরের মাঠ পর্যায়ে সুনামের সঙ্গে কাজ করছেন। সেবা, শৃঙ্খলা ও দায়িত্বশীলতার পরিচয় দিয়ে তিনি সহকর্মীদের কাছেও প্রশংসিত।

সিভিল সার্জন কার্যালয় সূত্রে জানা গেছে, প্রশাসনিক কার্যক্রমে ধারাবাহিকতা ও দক্ষতা নিশ্চিত করতেই তাকে এই দায়িত্ব দেওয়া হয়েছে।

অপরাধ বিষয়ে পিএইচডি, চার খুনের পর তোলেন সেলফি, যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের আইডাহো হত্যাকাণ্ডে আলোচিত অপরাধবিদ ব্রায়ান কোহবারগার

যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের আইডাহো অঙ্গরাজ্যে চার বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় শিক্ষার্থীকে নৃশংসভাবে হত্যা করে নিজেকে আবারো আলোচনার কেন্দ্রে নিয়ে এলেন অপরাধবিদ্যায় পিএইচডি পর্যায়ের ছাত্র ব্রায়ান কোহবারগার। ঘটনার ভয়াবহতা শুধু হত্যাকাণ্ডেই সীমাবদ্ধ ছিল না—হত্যার পর তিনি ঘটনাস্থলে ফিরে গিয়ে হাসিমুখে একটি সেলফি তোলেন, যা পরে তদন্তকারীদের হাতে এসে পড়ে।

ব্রায়ান কোহবারগার ওয়াশিংটন স্টেট ইউনিভার্সিটির একজন পিএইচডি ছাত্র। তার গবেষণার বিষয় ছিল ক্রিমিনোলজি বা অপরাধবিদ্যা। কীভাবে অপরাধীরা চিন্তা করে, কেন তারা অপরাধ করে, এইসব বিষয় ছিল তার পড়াশোনার অন্তর্ভুক্ত। কিন্তু চাঞ্চল্যকর তথ্য হলো—এই জ্ঞান ব্যবহার করে তিনি নিজেই এক ভয়ঙ্কর অপরাধ সংঘটিত করেন।

২০২২ সালের নভেম্বরে, ইউনিভার্সিটি অফ আইডাহোর চারজন ছাত্রছাত্রী—ক্যায়লি গঞ্জালভেস, মাডি মোঘান, ঝানা করনডল ও ইথান চ্যাপিন—কে গভীর রাতে ছুরিকাঘাতে হত্যা করা হয়। ঘটনার পর পুরো মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্র স্তব্ধ হয়ে যায়।

পুলিশের তদন্তে উঠে আসে, হত্যাকাণ্ডের পরদিন সকালে ব্রায়ান কোহবারগার আবার ঘটনাস্থলে ফিরে যান এবং নিজের মোবাইল দিয়ে সেলফি তোলেন। সে সময় নিহতদের মরদেহ তখনও খুঁজে পাওয়া যায়নি।

তদন্তকারীদের মতে, কোহবারগার হত্যার পর যেভাবে ফেরত গিয়ে ‘পর্যবেক্ষণ’ করেছেন এবং নিজের ছবি তুলেছেন, তা একজন অপরাধবিদের ‘প্যাটার্ন অব বিহেভিয়ার’ বা অপরাধপরবর্তী আচরণ বুঝতে চাওয়ার ইচ্ছারই বিকৃত রূপ হতে পারে।

ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়ার আশুগঞ্জে অবৈধভাবে পরিচালিত একটি সিসা গলানোর কারখানায় অভিযান চালিয়ে তিন চীনা নাগরিকসহ ছয়জনকে ১৫ দিন করে বিনাশ্রম কারাদণ্ড দিয়েছেন ভ্রাম্যমাণ আদালত। পরিবেশের ক্ষতিকর প্রভাব এবং অনুমোদনহীন কারখানা পরিচালনার অভিযোগে এ দণ্ড দেওয়া হয়।

বৃহস্পতিবার (৩ জুলাই) বিকেলে উপজেলার সোনারামপুর এলাকায় এ অভিযান পরিচালনা করেন আশুগঞ্জের উপজেলা নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা (ইউএনও) ও ভ্রাম্যমাণ আদালতের নির্বাহী ম্যাজিস্ট্রেট রাফে মোহাম্মদ ছড়া।

দণ্ডপ্রাপ্তরা হলেন—চীনের নাগরিক ঝানা ইয়াংলিয়াং (৪৪), ঝু শিংলিয়াং (৪১), সান বেনহুয়া (৬৩) এবং বাংলাদেশি মো. ইফতেয়ার সিকদার (৩৩), মো. সোহাগ মিয়া (২৫) ও মো. দিদার (২৬)।

পরিবেশ অধিদপ্তরের ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া জেলা কার্যালয়ের পরিদর্শক মো. রাখিবুল হাসান জানান, সোনারামপুর এলাকায় অবৈধভাবে একটি সিসা গলানোর কারখানা পরিচালনা করা হচ্ছিল, যার পরিবেশ অধিদপ্তরের কোনো ছাড়পত্র ছিল না। সিসা গলানোর কারণে এলাকায় মারাত্মক পরিবেশ দূষণ হচ্ছিল।

অভিযানকালে কারখানার কার্যক্রম বন্ধ করে দেওয়া হয় এবং মালামাল জব্দ করা হয়। পরে ভ্রাম্যমাণ আদালতের মাধ্যমে সংশ্লিষ্টদের দণ্ড প্রদান করা হয়।

পরিবেশ অধিদপ্তরের কর্মকর্তারা জানান, অনুমোদনহীনভাবে এমন কারখানা পরিচালনা আইনত দণ্ডনীয় এবং পরিবেশের জন্য চরম হুমকি। ভবিষ্যতে এই ধরনের অননুমোদিত কারখানার বিরুদ্ধে কঠোর ব্যবস্থা অব্যাহত থাকবে।

The Maitri Stambha (Monument of Friendship), built in Ashuganj of Brahmanbaria to honor the memory of members of the Indian Allied Forces who sacrificed their lives during the Liberation War of Bangladesh, was inaugurated on Thursday (August 13). District Commissioner Md. Abu Saeed inaugurated the monument at noon. It was subsequently opened to visitors.

The Maitri Stambha has been constructed in the Kamoura area of Ashuganj, beside the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway. The initiative to implement the project was undertaken to commemorate the sacrifices of members of the Indian Allied Forces who fought for the independence of Bangladesh during the Liberation War of 1971.

According to relevant sources, approximately Tk 72 crore was spent on the construction of the Maitri Stambha. Following the inauguration, District Commissioner Md. Abu Saeed toured various sections of the monument. It was later officially opened to the general public.

An entrance fee has been set for visitors interested in viewing the Maitri Stambha. Ticket prices have been fixed at Tk 20 and Tk 30 for different categories of visitors.

Additional District Commissioner Ranjan Chandra Dey, Ashuganj Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Kazi Rabbius Sarwar, and other officials from the administration were present at the inauguration ceremony along with the District Commissioner.

Contribution of the Allied Forces to the Liberation War

During the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971, members of the Indian Allied Forces fought alongside the Mukti Bahini against the Pakistani forces. They fought shoulder to shoulder with Bangladeshi freedom fighters on various battlefronts across the country.

গোপালগঞ্জ প্রতিনিধি: গোপালগঞ্জ বাসীর জন্য দীর্ঘ প্রতীক্ষার অবসান ঘটিয়ে আগামী ১০ আগস্ট থেকে গোপালগঞ্জ-ঢাকা রুটে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে চালু হচ্ছে "অভিযাত্রী কমিউটার"ট্রেন । রাজধানীর সঙ্গে সরাসরি রেল যোগাযোগ স্থাপনের এই উদ্যোগে উচ্ছ্বসিত গোপালগঞ্জের সাধারণ মানুষ। কম খরচে নিরাপদ ও স্বাচ্ছন্দ্যপূর্ণ যাতায়াতের পাশাপাশি নতুন এই রেলসেবা স্থানীয় ব্যবসা-বাণিজ্য ও কৃষিপণ্য পরিবহনেও ইতিবাচক প্রভাব ফেলবে বলে আশা করছেন সংশ্লিষ্টরা।

বাংলাদেশ রেলওয়ে সূত্রে জানা গেছে, ১০ আগস্ট দুপুর ২টা ৩০ মিনিটে ঢাকার উদ্দেশে গোপালগঞ্জের পথে প্রথমবারের মতো যাত্রা করবে ‘অভিযাত্রী কমিউটার’। ট্রেনটি সন্ধ্যা ৬টা ৪৫ মিনিটে গোপালগঞ্জে পৌঁছাবে। একই দিন সন্ধ্যা ৭টা ২৫ মিনিটে গোপালগঞ্জ থেকে ঢাকার উদ্দেশে ছেড়ে রাত ১০টা ২৫ মিনিটে রাজধানীতে পৌঁছানোর কথা রয়েছে।

প্রায় ৭০০ আসনবিশিষ্ট এই ট্রেনে যাত্রী পরিবহনের পাশাপাশি ভবিষ্যতে পণ্য পরিবহনের সুযোগ বাড়ানোর সম্ভাবনাও রয়েছে। বিশেষ করে কৃষিপ্রধান গোপালগঞ্জের উৎপাদিত শাকসবজি ও অন্যান্য কৃষিপণ্য দ্রুত ও কম খরচে ঢাকার বাজারে পাঠানোর ক্ষেত্রে রেল যোগাযোগ গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখতে পারে বলে মনে করছেন স্থানীয়রা।

নতুন এই রেলসেবার সবচেয়ে বড় আকর্ষণ ভাড়া। সড়কপথে গোপালগঞ্জ থেকে ঢাকায় যেতে যেখানে সাধারণত ৬০০ থেকে ৮০০ টাকা পর্যন্ত খরচ হয়, সেখানে ট্রেনে মাত্র ১৪৫ টাকায় যাতায়াত করা যাবে। ফলে নিম্ন ও মধ্যবিত্ত শ্রেণির মানুষের জন্য এটি স্বস্তির খবর হয়ে এসেছে। পাশাপাশি সড়কপথের যানজট ও দুর্ঘটনার ঝুঁকি এড়িয়ে তুলনামূলক নিরাপদ ও আরামদায়ক যাতায়াতের সুযোগ তৈরি হবে।

গোপালগঞ্জের রেলযান পরীক্ষক পল্লব কান্তি বিশ্বাস বলেন, ঢাকা-গোপালগঞ্জ রুটে সরাসরি এক জোড়া ট্রেন চালু করা স্থানীয় মানুষের দীর্ঘদিনের প্রত্যাশা ছিল। প্রায় ৭০০ আসনের এই কমিউটার ট্রেনে ১৪৫ টাকায় ঢাকায় যাতায়াত করা যাবে। ভবিষ্যতে অতিরিক্ত লাগেজ বগি যুক্ত করা হলে কৃষকরা তাদের উৎপাদিত পণ্য কম খরচে রাজধানীর বাজারে পাঠানোর সুযোগ পাবেন।

স্থানীয় বাসিন্দা মো. সবুজ (অটো চালক) বলেন, নিম্ন ও মধ্যবিত্ত মানুষের জন্য নতুন এই ট্রেন বড় ধরনের সুবিধা নিয়ে আসবে। বাসের তুলনায় অনেক কম খরচে ঢাকায় যাওয়া সম্ভব হবে। কৃষিপণ্য পরিবহনের ব্যবস্থা করা গেলে গোপালগঞ্জের কৃষকরাও সরাসরি উপকৃত হবেন।

আরেক বাসিন্দা মো. হাসান মোল্লা বলেন, বাসে ঢাকায় যেতে অনেক বেশি অর্থ ব্যয় হয় এবং সড়কপথে নানা ধরনের ঝুঁকিও রয়েছে। ট্রেন চালু হওয়ায় কম খরচে নিরাপদ ও স্বাচ্ছন্দ্যে রাজধানীতে যাতায়াত করা যাবে।

গোপালগঞ্জ রেলস্টেশনের স্টেশন মাস্টার রত্না বৈদ্য জানান, গোপালগঞ্জ থেকে রাজশাহী রুটে ট্রেন চলাচল করলেও ঢাকার সঙ্গে সরাসরি রেলসেবা ছিল না। নতুন ট্রেন চালুর ফলে স্থানীয় মানুষের দীর্ঘদিনের যাতায়াত সমস্যা অনেকটাই কমবে। একই সঙ্গে যাত্রী সংখ্যা বাড়লে সরকারের রাজস্ব আয়ও বাড়ার সম্ভাবনা রয়েছে।

তবে নির্ধারিত সময়সূচি নিয়ে কিছুটা ভিন্নমতও রয়েছে। স্টেশনে আসা যাত্রী মো. স্বপন (গোপালগঞ্জ শ্রমিক ইউনিয়নের) বলেন, ট্রেন চালু হওয়া নিঃসন্দেহে আনন্দের খবর। তবে সকালে ট্রেন ঢাকার উদ্দেশে ছাড়লে যেসব মানুষ অফিস বা ব্যবসার কাজে রাজধানীতে যান, তারা একই দিনে কাজ শেষ করে আবার গোপালগঞ্জে ফিরতে পারতেন। তাই ভবিষ্যতে সময়সূচি পুনর্বিবেচনার বিষয়টি কর্তৃপক্ষ বিবেচনা করতে পারে।

স্থানীয়দের প্রত্যাশা, ঢাকা-গোপালগঞ্জ সরাসরি রেল যোগাযোগ শুধু যাতায়াতের খরচ ও সময় কমাবে না, বরং শিক্ষা, চিকিৎসা, চাকরি, ব্যবসা ও কৃষিপণ্য পরিবহনের ক্ষেত্রেও নতুন সুযোগ সৃষ্টি করবে। গোপালগঞ্জের পাশাপাশি আশপাশের বাগেরহাট ও পিরোজপুর জেলার মানুষও এই রেলসেবার সুফল পাবেন বলে মনে করছেন সংশ্লিষ্টরা।

দীর্ঘদিনের অপেক্ষার পর চালু হতে যাওয়া ‘অভিযাত্রী কমিউটার’ তাই শুধু একটি নতুন ট্রেন নয়-গোপালগঞ্জের সঙ্গে রাজধানীর যোগাযোগ ও আঞ্চলিক অর্থনীতিতে নতুন সম্ভাবনার দুয়ার খুলবে, এমনটাই প্রত্যাশা স্থানীয় সকল মানুষের।

ইসরাইলকে ‘পুরো মুসলিম বিশ্বের জন্য হুমকি’ উল্লেখ করে দেশটির বিরুদ্ধে মুসলিম দেশগুলোকে ঐক্যবদ্ধ হওয়ার আহ্বান জানিয়েছেন পাকিস্তানের প্রতিরক্ষামন্ত্রী খাজা আসিফ। একই সঙ্গে ইসরাইল মোকাবিলায় ‘একটি ঐক্যবদ্ধ সামরিক ফ্রন্ট’ গড়ে তোলার প্রয়োজনীয়তার কথাও বলেছেন তিনি।

শনিবার (৮ আগস্ট) পাকিস্তানের একটি সংবাদমাধ্যমকে দেওয়া সাক্ষাৎকারে খাজা আসিফ এসব কথা বলেন।

ইসরাইল প্রসঙ্গে খাজা আসিফ বলেন, ‘সব মুসলিম দেশকে ঐক্যবদ্ধ হতে হবে। এ বিষয়ে আমার কোনো সন্দেহ নেই।’

তিনি বলেন, ‘ইসরাইল ১৯১৭ সালের ব্রিটিশ বালফোর ঘোষণার ফল।’ তার দাবি, এই ঘোষণার ভিত্তিতে ইসরাইল প্রতিষ্ঠিত হওয়ায় দেশটি অঞ্চলটির যেকোনো দেশের জন্য সরাসরি হুমকি হয়ে উঠতে পারে।

বালফোর ঘোষণা ছিল ১৯১৭ সালে ব্রিটিশ সরকারের পক্ষ থেকে ফিলিস্তিনে ইহুদিদের জন্য একটি জাতীয় আবাসভূমি প্রতিষ্ঠার প্রতি সমর্থন। পরবর্তী সময়ে এই ঘোষণাকে ইসরাইল রাষ্ট্র প্রতিষ্ঠার অন্যতম ঐতিহাসিক ভিত্তি হিসেবে দেখা হয়।

ইসরাইলের প্রতি নিজের কঠোর অবস্থান স্পষ্ট করে পাকিস্তানের প্রতিরক্ষামন্ত্রী বলেন, ‘ইসরাইলের প্রধানমন্ত্রী বেনিয়ামিন নেতানিয়াহু চলতি বছরের নির্বাচনে পরাজিত হলেও তার অবস্থানের কোনো পরিবর্তন হবে না।’

খাজা আসিফ আরও বলেন, ‘জেরুজালেমে যে-ই ক্ষমতায় আসুক, সাবেক প্রধানমন্ত্রী নাফতালি বেনেট কিংবা অন্য কোনো নেতা, পার্থক্য খুবই সামান্য।’

এর আগেও খাজা আসিফ ইসরাইলকে ‘মানবতার জন্য অভিশাপ’ এবং ‘ক্যানসারাস রাষ্ট্র’ হিসেবে অভিহিত করে তীব্র সমালোচনা করেছিলেন।

‎লিটন হোসাইন জিহাদ, ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া : ঢাকা-সিলেট মহাসড়কের ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়ার আশুগঞ্জ উপজেলার বাহাদুরপুর বাসস্ট্যান্ড এলাকায় মেঘনায় ড্রেজার দিয়ে নদী থেকে অবৈধভাবে বালু উত্তোলনের প্রতিবাদে মহাসড়ক অবরোধ করেছেন বিক্ষুব্ধ এলাকাবাসী।

‎শনিবার সকাল ১০টা থেকে দুপুর দেড়টা পর্যন্ত  বাহাদুরপুর বাসস্ট্যান্ড এলাকায় মহাসড়ক অবরোধ করে বিক্ষোভ করেন স্থানীয়রা। এতে প্রায় সাড়ে ৩ ঘণ্টা ধরে বন্ধ রয়েছে ঢাকা-সিলেট মহাসড়কে যান চলাচল। অবরোধের কারণে মহাসড়কের আশুগঞ্জ টোলপ্লাজা থেকে চান্দুরা পর্যন্ত প্রায় ১০ কিলোমিটার এলাকায় দীর্ঘ যানজটের সৃষ্টি হয়েছে। ভোগান্তিতে পড়েছেন দূরপাল্লার যাত্রীসহ স্থানীয় মানুষ।‎‎স্থানীয়রা জানান, এর আগে গত বৃহস্পতিবার আশুগঞ্জ উপজেলার বাহাদুরপুর, দুর্গাপুর ও তাজপুর গ্রামের উত্তর৷ অবৈধভাবে বালু উত্তোলনের প্রতিবাদে মানববন্ধন করা হয়। মানববন্ধনে আশুগঞ্জ উপজেলা নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা মো. জামাল হোসেন, সহকারী কমিশনার (ভূমি) কাজী রবিউস সারোয়ার এবং আশুগঞ্জ থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা একেএম সফিকুল আলম চৌধুরী উপস্থিত হয়ে এই বালুমহাল দমনে তাদের আশ্বাস প্রদান করা হলেও গতকাল রাতে মানববন্ধনে উপস্থিত আন্দোলনকারীদের উপর হামলা ও হুমকি দেন বলে দাবী করেন বিক্ষুদ্ধরা। ঘটনাস্থলে আশুগঞ্জ থানা পুলিশ উপস্থিত হয়ে নিয়ন্ত্রণে আনার চেষ্টা করলে বিক্ষোভকারীরা অভিযুক্তদের গ্রেপ্তার না করা পর্যন্ত আন্দোলন চালিয়ে যাবেন বলে দাবী জানান।

এদিকে দীর্ঘ এই যানজটে ভোগান্তিতে পড়েছেন ঐ সড়ক ব্যবহারকারী যাত্রীসহ স্থানীয়রা। ৩ ঘন্টা ধরে আটকে থাকা মো. দেলোয়ার হোসাইন বলেন, কসবা উপজেলা থেকে ছেড়ে আসা ঢাকাগামী কাজী পরিবহন বাস দিয়ে পরিবার নিয়ে ঢাকার উদ্দেশ্য যাত্রা করি। বিশ্বরোড পার হয়ে সোহাগপুর ব্রিজের পূর্বে মানববন্ধন আরম্ভ হলে প্রায় তিন ঘণ্টা ধরে আটকে আছি। হাজার হাজার মানুষ কষ্ট করছে। কখন মানববন্ধন শেষ হবে কেউই বলতে পারছে না।

সিলেট থেকে ছেড়ে আসা এনা পরিবহনের যাত্রী কাউছার বলেন, আমার ঢাকাতে ৩টার সময় মিটিং কিন্তু এখানেই ১টা বেজে গেছে! কবে জ্যাম শেষ হবে জানিও না। তিনি বলেন পরিবার পরিজন নিয়ে রোগী,  শিশু, মানুষ কষ্ট করছে।

আশুগঞ্জ থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা একেএম সফিকুল আলম চৌধুরী বলেন, যারা মানববন্ধন করছে তাদের মূল লোকেরা সামনে আসছেনা। সামনের সারির লোকজনের সাথে কথা বলে সড়কে যানচলাচল স্বাভাবিক করার ব্যবস্থা করছি।

ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া অতিরিক্ত পুলিশ সুপার ( প্রশাসন ও অর্থ) ওবায়দুর রহমান বলেন, আমরা যানচলাচল স্বাভাবিক রাখার জন্য সর্বোচ্চ চেষ্টা চালিয়ে যাচ্ছি।
