ব্রিটেনের একটি স্থানীয় প্রাণী উদ্ধার সংস্থায় অদ্ভুত এক ফোন আসে একবার। জানানো হয়, একটি কাঠবিড়ালি মাথায় কিছু একটা পরে পুরো এলাকায় ছুটে বেড়াচ্ছে। আর সেটিকে দেখে ভয় পাচ্ছেন আশপাশের মানুষ!

উদ্ধারকারীরা ঘটনাস্থলে গিয়ে সমস্যাটি বুঝতে পারেন। কাঠবিড়ালিটি একটি হ্যালোউইন মুখোশ খুঁজে পেয়েছিল। কোনোভাবে কাঠবিড়ালিটি একটি ছিদ্র দিয়ে মাথা ঢুকিয়ে ফেলেছিল, কিন্তু পরে আর বের করতে পারছিল না। ফলে মুখোশটি তার পুরো মাথা ঢেকে দেয়।

দূর থেকে দেখলে মনে হচ্ছিল, মানুষের আকারের ভয়ংকর একটি মুখ পরে ছোট্ট কোনো প্রাণী লন, বাগান আর গাছের মধ্যে ছুটে বেড়াচ্ছে!

কাঠবিড়ালিটিও তখন আতঙ্কিত। কেউ কাছে গেলেই দৌড়ে পালাচ্ছিল। কিন্তু মুখোশের কারণে ভালোভাবে দেখতে পারছিল না। কখনো কোনো কিছুর সঙ্গে ধাক্কা খাচ্ছিল, আবার হঠাৎ দিক বদলে ছুটছিল!

এই আচরণের কারণেই অনেকের কাছে মনে হচ্ছিল, কাঠবিড়ালিটি বুঝি তাদের তাড়া করছে। শেষ পর্যন্ত উদ্ধারকারীরা সেটিকে কোণঠাসা করতে সক্ষম হন। এরপর খুব সাবধানে ধরে রাবারের মুখোশটি মাথা থেকে খুলে দেন।

মুক্তি পাওয়ার সঙ্গে সঙ্গেই কাঠবিড়ালিটি সেখান থেকে ছুটে পালায়। পরে উদ্ধারকারী সংস্থা ঘটনাটির ছবি অনলাইনে প্রকাশ করলে তা দ্রুত ছড়িয়ে পড়ে। অনেকেই প্রাণীটির নাম দেন ‘হ্যালোউইন স্কুইরেল’। কেউ বলেন, এটি ছিল বছরের সবচেয়ে ভয়ংকর দৃশ্য। আবার কারও মতে, আসলে এটি ছিল একটি কাঠবিড়ালির জীবনের সবচেয়ে খারাপ দিন।

To address this challenge, PothikTV plans to develop Verify, a dedicated system for fact-checking and information verification.

Users will be able to submit questionable content for review. Technology and AI may assist with preliminary analysis, while human editorial review is intended to remain a requirement before findings are published.

বিএনপি চেয়ারপারসন ও সাবেক প্রধানমন্ত্রী খালেদা জিয়ার মরদেহ জাতীয় পতাকায় মোড়ানো একটি গাড়িতে করে গুলশান থেকে জানাজার জন্য মানিক মিয়া অ্যাভিনিউয়ে নেওয়া হচ্ছে।

আজ বুধবার বেলা ১১টা ০৪ মিনিটে খালেদা জিয়াকে বহনকারী গাড়িবহর তারেক রহমানের গুলশান অ্যাভিনিউয়ের ১৯৬ নম্বর বাসা থেকে বের হয়েছে।

গাড়িবহরে লাল সবুজ রঙের বাসটিও রয়েছে। তারেক রহমান, তাঁর স্ত্রী জুবাইদা রহমান, কন্যা জাইমা রহমান, ছোট ভাই আরাফাত রহমান কোকোর স্ত্রীসহ পরিবারের সদস্যরা জানাজাস্থলে যাচ্ছেন।

বিএনপির স্থায়ী কমিটির সদস্য ও খালেদা জিয়ার স্বজনেরাও গাড়িবহরে রয়েছেন।

জানাজা শেষে তাঁকে দাফন করা হবে তাঁর স্বামী ও সাবেক রাষ্ট্রপতি জিয়াউর রহমানের কবরের পাশে।

এদিকে জানাজায় অংশ নিতে সকাল থেকেই দলে দলে মানিক মিয়া অ্যাভিনিউতে জড়ো হতে শুরু করেছেন বিএনপির নেতা কর্মী এবং সাধারণ মানুষেরা।

সরেজমিনে সকাল সাড়ে দশটার দিকে জাতীয় সংসদ ভবনের মাঠ, মানিক মিয়া অ্যাভিনিউয়ের মূল সড়ক, ফার্মগেটের খামারবাড়ি এলাকার মোড়সহ ওই এলাকায় মানুষের ভিড় দেখা গেছে।

ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়ার বিজয়নগরে থানা পুলিশ অভিযান চালিয়ে ৮ (আট) কেজি গাঁজা উদ্ধার করেছে। এ সময় এক মাদক কারবারিকে গ্রেফতার করা হয়েছে।

পুলিশ সূত্রে জানা যায়, মঙ্গলবার (৩০ ডিসেম্বর ২০২৫ খ্রি.) রাত আনুমানিক ২টা ৪৫ মিনিটে বিজয়নগর থানা পুলিশের একটি দল গোপন সংবাদের ভিত্তিতে অভিযান পরিচালনা করে। অভিযানটি পরিচালিত হয় থানাধীন ৭নং সিঙ্গারবিল ইউনিয়নের উথারিয়াপাড়া (সিঙ্গারবিল) এলাকায়। অভিযানের সময় ওই এলাকা থেকে এক মাদক কারবারিকে গ্রেফতার করা হয় এবং তার হেফাজত থেকে ৮ কেজি গাঁজা উদ্ধার করা হয়।

উদ্ধারকৃত মাদকদ্রব্য উপস্থিত সাক্ষীদের সামনে বিধি মোতাবেক জব্দ তালিকা প্রণয়ন করে জব্দ করা হয়েছে।

গ্রেফতারকৃত আসামি হলেন মো. শান্ত মিয়া (২৫)। তিনি মো. ইয়াছিনের পুত্র এবং মোছা. রোজিনার সন্তান। তার বাড়ি সিঙ্গারবিল ইউনিয়নের উথারিয়াপাড়া এলাকায়। তিনি বিজয়নগর থানার আওতাধীন এবং ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া জেলার বাসিন্দা।

এ ঘটনায় বিজয়নগর থানায় মাদকদ্রব্য নিয়ন্ত্রণ আইনে একটি মামলা রুজু করা হয়েছে বলে পুলিশ জানিয়েছে।

Expressing profound grief at the death of three-time former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, her eldest son and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman said that his mother dedicated her entire life to the welfare of the country and its people.

In an emotional post published on his verified Facebook page on Tuesday (December 30) afternoon, Tarique Rahman stated that Begum Khaleda Zia was not only a political leader but also an eternal guide in Bangladesh’s democratic journey. He noted that she passed away at 6:00 am while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital, creating a huge void in the country’s political landscape.

In his message, Tarique Rahman described Begum Khaleda Zia as the “Mother of Democracy” and the “Mother of Bangladesh,” saying the nation has lost a guardian who fought throughout her life against autocracy, fascism, and hegemonic forces. Recalling her sacrifices, he wrote that her leadership in the struggle to establish independence, sovereignty, and democracy was uncompromising.

Beyond her political identity, he said, she was a compassionate guardian to her family and a source of strength during the most difficult times. Despite repeated arrests, denial of proper medical treatment, prolonged imprisonment, and oppression, she never wavered from her courage or patriotism.

Highlighting her personal sacrifices, Tarique Rahman said that in protecting the country’s interests, she lost her husband and children, and for her, the nation and its people were her true family and the core of her existence. He expressed confidence that the unforgettable legacy of public service and struggle she left behind would remain eternally remembered in Bangladesh’s democratic history. In this moment of grief, he described his mother’s ideals as a guiding light that instills patience and strength among all members of the family.

In the concluding part of his message, Tarique Rahman requested the nation’s prayers for his mother. He expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of his family for the deep emotions, sincere love, and respect shown by the people of Bangladesh and admirers around the world toward Begum Khaleda Zia. He also sought the support and prayers of the nation to stand by the family and share in his mother’s final farewell

এদিকে মনোনয়নপত্র দাখিলকে কেন্দ্র করে এলাকাজুড়ে উৎসবমুখর পরিবেশ সৃষ্টি হয়। নেতাকর্মীরা স্লোগান ও ব্যানার-ফেস্টুনের মাধ্যমে তাদের সমর্থন জানান। উল্লেখ্য, সরওয়ার জামাল নিজাম এর আগে তিনবার চট্টগ্রাম-১৩ আসন থেকে জাতীয় সংসদ সদস্য হিসেবে নির্বাচিত হয়ে এলাকার অবকাঠামো উন্নয়ন, শিক্ষা ও সামাজিক খাতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখেন।

Nahid Islam, the Convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has been nominated as the Jamaat–Alliance candidate for the Dhaka–11 parliamentary constituency.

Previously, Jamaat-e-Islami had nominated Atiqur Rahman, former central president of Islami Chhatra Shibir, as its candidate for the same seat. Over a long period, Atiqur Rahman had organized and strengthened the constituency with notable efficiency, dedication, and sincerity. According to several responsible party leaders from Dhaka–11, he worked tirelessly for the area, making significant sacrifices and demonstrating strong commitment to grassroots organization and political mobilization.

However, in consideration of broader alliance interests and the ongoing political movement, Atiqur Rahman voluntarily withdrew from the race. Party leaders have described this decision as a commendable example of selflessness and political sacrifice.

With this development, Nahid Islam is now the official candidate of the Jamaat–Alliance in Dhaka–11. Atiqur Rahman has stated that he will continue to work actively for the success of the alliance candidate and will extend his full cooperation to ensure victory in the constituency.

Party insiders believe that this nomination reflects the alliance’s strategic approach and unity, aimed at strengthening the collective movement and maximizing electoral prospects in Dhaka–11.

জিহাদুল ইসলাম জিহাদ : চাঁপাইনবাবগঞ্জ জেলার শিবগঞ্জ সীমান্তে মাদক চোরাকারবারীরা বিজিবি’র চোখ ফাঁকি দিতে নতুন নতুন পন্থা অবলম্বন করছে। তবে বসে নেই মহানন্দা ব্যাটালিয়ন (৫৯ বিজিবি) এর চৌকস বিজিবি সদস্যরা। এরই ধারাবাহিকতায় গত ২৭ ডিসেম্বর গভীর রাতে আজমতপুর বিওপি’র একটি বিশেষ টহল দল অভিযান পরিচালনাকালীন সীমান্ত পিলার ১৮১/৯-এস হতে আনুমানিক ৫০ গজ বাংলাদেশের অভ্যন্তরে কৃষকের পানি দেওয়ার প্লাস্টিকের পাইপ সন্দেহজনক অবস্থায় পড়ে থাকতে দেখে। পরবর্তীতে বিজিবি সদস্যরা পাইপটি বিওপিতে নিয়ে আসার পর এর অভ্যন্তরে অভিনব কায়দায় লুকিয়ে রাখা ১২৩ বোতল ভারতীয় নেশাজাতীয় চকো প্লাস সিরাপ উদ্ধার করে।

এ বিষয়ে বিজিবি’র পক্ষ হতে আইনি প্রক্রিয়ার কাজ চলমান। এই ব্যাপারে মহানন্দা ব্যাটালিয়ন (৫৯ বিজিবি) এর অধিনায়ক লেঃ কর্নেল গোলাম কিবরিয়া, বিজিবিএম, বিজিওএম বিষয়টির সত্যতা নিশ্চিত করেছেন। তিনি বলেন, চোরাকারবারীরা মাদক চোরাচালানে যতই পদ্ধতি অবলম্বন করুক; সকল প্রকার মাদক চোরাচালান প্রতিরোধে আমাদের ঐকান্তিক প্রচেষ্টা অব্যাহত থাকবে।

ইনকিলাব মঞ্চের মুখপাত্র শরিফ ওসমান হাদি হত্যা মামলার তদন্ত প্রতিবেদন আগামী ১০ দিনের মধ্যেই দাখিল করা হবে বলে জানিয়েছেন স্বরাষ্ট্র উপদেষ্টা লেফটেন্যান্ট জেনারেল (অব.) জাহাঙ্গীর আলম চৌধুরী।

রোববার দুপুরে স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ের সভাকক্ষে কোর কমিটির বৈঠক শেষে সাংবাদিকদের সঙ্গে আলাপকালে তিনি এ কথা জানান। স্বরাষ্ট্র উপদেষ্টা বলেন, মামলাটির তদন্ত কার্যক্রম অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বের সঙ্গে এগিয়ে নেওয়া হচ্ছে এবং নির্ধারিত সময়ের মধ্যেই তদন্ত প্রতিবেদন জমা দেওয়া হবে।

তিনি আরও বলেন, হাদি হত্যার মতো স্পর্শকাতর ও আলোচিত ঘটনার ক্ষেত্রে সুষ্ঠু, নিরপেক্ষ ও স্বচ্ছ তদন্ত নিশ্চিত করতে সংশ্লিষ্ট আইনশৃঙ্খলা বাহিনী সর্বোচ্চ গুরুত্ব দিয়ে কাজ করছে। তদন্ত প্রক্রিয়ায় কোনো ধরনের গাফিলতি বা অবহেলার সুযোগ রাখা হবে না বলেও তিনি আশ্বস্ত করেন।

স্বরাষ্ট্র উপদেষ্টা জানান, মামলার অগ্রগতি নিয়মিতভাবে তদারকি করা হচ্ছে এবং অপরাধের সঙ্গে জড়িতদের আইনের আওতায় আনতে সরকার বদ্ধপরিকর।

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed has said that BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, as a nationally popular leader, has the eligibility and public acceptance to contest the parliamentary elections from any constituency in Bangladesh. He added that due to Tarique Rahman’s widespread public support and interest, constituency selection is not a barrier for him.

Rizvi made these remarks on Sunday (December 28) afternoon while speaking to journalists after paying floral tributes at the grave of the party’s founder and former President Shaheed Ziaur Rahman at Zia Udyan in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.

He said Tarique Rahman is not only a leader of the BNP, but also a major source of inspiration in the country’s political landscape. As the political heir of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and through the long struggle under the leadership of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman has emerged as a widely accepted leader among the people of the country, Rizvi added.

Responding to a question about the collection of nomination papers on behalf of Tarique Rahman from the Dhaka-17 constituency, Rizvi said the capital Dhaka is the center of national politics. From a strategic point of view, leading politics from Dhaka is both natural and logical. However, he noted that since Tarique Rahman’s popularity extends across the country, he can contest and win from any constituency if he so chooses.

The BNP spokesperson further said that there is strong public expectation and demand to see Tarique Rahman directly participate in electoral politics. His participation would create new momentum in the country’s democratic politics and inspire hope among voters, he added.

After the tribute, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi prayed for the eternal peace of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman and called upon everyone to remain united in the movement to restore democracy in Bangladesh.
