Demonstration Held in Khagrachhari Demanding Lifting of Sajek Travel Ban

A protest rally and demonstration were held in Khagrachhari demanding the removal of travel restrictions to Sajek Valley, the assurance of overall security for tourists, and the reopening of tourism spots.

The event was organized on Friday afternoon by tourism-related business operators, transport workers, and local residents at Shapla Chattar in Khagrachhari Municipality.

Prior to the rally, protesters brought out a procession that marched through several main roads in the town before gathering at the municipal Shapla Chattar for the demonstration.

The protest rally was chaired by Aiyush Chakma, president of the Parbatya Vehicular Association. Other speakers at the event included transport-related leaders Jasim Uddin, Ujjal, Mohammad Asad Masum, and Omar Faruk Kusum.

Speakers highlighted that the suspension of tourist travel to Sajek has resulted in severe financial losses for local tourism businesses and transport sector workers. They urged authorities to ensure comprehensive tourist safety, immediately lift the travel ban to Sajek, and normalize vehicle movements.

Furthermore, the demonstrators demanded effective measures to stop extortion in the hill region. They issued a 48-hour ultimatum for the blockade to be lifted, warning of stricter agitation programs if their demands are not met.
