Multiple Developments Expected Within a Week: ICT Chief Prosecutor Tazul Islam

Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), Mohammad Tazul Islam, has said that several significant developments are expected to occur within the next week. He made the statement while speaking to journalists at the premises of the International Crimes Tribunal on Monday (October 6).
Tazul Islam said, “The investigation reports of several high-profile enforced disappearance cases that took place during the Awami League government’s tenure will be submitted within a week. I mentioned this yesterday as well—very soon, within this week, several developments will take place regarding the disappearance cases. You will see them. We are not making any further comments on this matter today.”
Addressing those who have expressed concerns over delays in trials, he said, “The formal charges being submitted in various cases are the answer to their doubts. The time required for investigation has already passed. Now that we have received the investigation reports, the formal charges are being filed one after another.”
The Chief Prosecutor further stated, “The formal phase of the trials has begun. Many cases are now in their final stages. Therefore, the nation’s long-held expectation—to bring the worst murderers, perpetrators of genocide, and violators of humanity to justice—is being realized. The International Crimes Tribunal is on the right track. We hope the trials will be completed within the timeframe expected by the people.”
On Obaidul Quader’s Case
When asked about the case involving Obaidul Quader, Tazul Islam said, “As we have repeatedly stated, not everything can happen at once. The proceedings will continue step by step. These cases are now at a mature stage, and you will see the results in due time.”
Emphasizing the inevitability of justice, he said, “Everyone will have to face trial. No one will escape accountability, no one will be granted impunity, and no one can evade justice by fleeing. Justice always moves at its own pace.”
On the Progress of Investigations
In response to a question about whether the investigations had been completed, Tazul Islam said, “There are many enforced disappearance cases. Although not all are completed, investigation reports for several major cases will be submitted this week. Since these are complex cases, we are carefully examining every detail. You will receive the investigation reports within this week.”
Regarding the prime accused, Sheikh Hasina, he said, “You will see the rest soon.”
