Army Raids UPDF Hideout in Khagrachhari’s Remote Jungle; Commander Sumen Chakma Escapes

Based on specific intelligence, a team of the Bangladesh Army conducted a raid and search operation on a secret hideout of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) in the deep jungle of Juboneshwar Para area under Panchhari Upazila of Khagrachhari district.

The operation was carried out at approximately 5:00 a.m. on Monday (October 6). However, sensing the presence of the army, UPDF’s top group commander, Sumen Chakma, managed to flee the scene. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) disclosed this information in an official press release.

According to the release, during the search, the army recovered one pistol, one magazine, two rounds of ammunition, 15 banners, two walkie-talkie chargers, two mobile phones, sharp weapons, and various other equipment used by the armed UPDF members.

The statement further mentioned that, during the operation, the UPDF forced local men, women, and students to chant anti-army slogans in an attempt to disrupt the army’s activities. Observing today’s incident and recent developments, it has become evident that the UPDF and its affiliated organizations are systematically using local women and school-going children to take part in their subversive activities aimed at destabilizing the Chittagong Hill Tracts region.

It also added that the army’s operation will continue to track down the fugitive armed members of the UPDF in different parts of the Chittagong Hill Tracts to ensure the safety of the local population. The Bangladesh Army reaffirmed its commitment to taking all necessary measures to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty and ensure the security of all ethnic communities living in the region.
