online desnk: The two-year-long Israel–Hamas war may be approaching its end, as both Tel Aviv and the pro-Palestinian faction Hamas have agreed to the preliminary conditions of a peace proposal put forward by U.S. President Donald Trump. This breakthrough has opened the door to the release of hostages. Yet a larger question remains—has Israel truly managed to crush Hamas, or are the seeds of a new conflict already taking root within this war itself?

According to some defense analysts, Israel may have “broken Hamas’s backbone,” but its complete annihilation remains far from reality. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claim to have eliminated between 17,000 and 23,000 of Hamas’s estimated 25,000–30,000 fighters over the past two years, along with several top leaders. Still, Israel’s forces have failed to rescue the hostages from Hamas’s strongholds—casting doubt on their claim of victory.

The turning point came on October 7, 2023, when Iran-backed Hamas launched a surprise offensive called Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, crossing the Gaza border into Israel. The onslaught overwhelmed Israel’s air defense systems with a barrage of rockets. Within hours, Israel’s air and ground forces retaliated with full-scale operations. Over 1,200 innocent civilians were killed in the attack, and more than 250 people were taken hostage into Gaza. From that day, Israel began its long and complex campaign—Operation Sword of Iron—starting with airstrikes followed by a ground invasion aimed at dismantling Hamas’s core command hubs.

By January 2024, IDF tank divisions had entered Gaza City and Jabalia, beginning an extensive hunt for Hamas leadership. However, Hamas’s true power lies in its elaborate tunnel network—spanning an estimated 560–720 kilometers, housing over 5,700 hideouts, where weapons, hostages, and fighters are concealed. Israel has failed to destroy this underground web entirely, allowing Hamas the opportunity to regroup and rebuild.

Meanwhile, Israeli bombardments have caused devastating civilian casualties. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, over 67,000 people have been killed in Gaza—half of them women and children. Major hospitals like Al-Shifa and Nasser have been reduced to rubble, and the estimated weight of the debris is around 50 million tons.

Hamas, however, has not been idle. Data from the U.S.-based Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED) reveal that the group has redeployed 10,000–12,000 guerrilla fighters across southern Gaza. Since early 2025, at least 15,000 new recruits—mostly young men—have joined Hamas, signaling a strong resurgence.

Experts note that Hamas has gained ground not just militarily but also in the propaganda war. It has successfully framed Israel as a “perpetrator of genocide” on the global stage, shifting public opinion in its favor. Recently, countries such as the United Kingdom, France, Australia, and Canada have recognized Palestine—leaving Tel Aviv increasingly isolated in international politics.

Shayel Ben, an international relations expert from Los Angeles, observed, “Hamas is not merely an organization—it is a nationalist idea. It draws its strength from the historical solidarity of the Arab world. Even if Israel defeats it militarily, Hamas could return in a new form.”

Israeli Chief of Staff Yaal Zamir has also acknowledged this grim reality. Speaking to Israel’s Channel 12, he said, “Even if we completely occupy Gaza, eliminating Hamas will not be easy. Such an outcome could instead deepen Israel’s diplomatic isolation.”

In this context, Trump’s peace proposal has become a double-edged sword for Israel—both a relief and a burden. While the potential release of hostages may ease domestic pressure on Prime Minister Netanyahu’s government, Hamas has warned that if hostilities resume, Israel will pay a heavy price.

Meanwhile, Israel’s National Security Minister Ben Gvir prayed at the Al-Aqsa Mosque and proclaimed victory, provoking outrage across the Arab world. Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and several other nations have sharply condemned his actions.

Now, the world is watching closely—how long will Trump’s peace deal last? And more importantly, who will emerge as the true victor of the Gaza war—Israel or Hamas?

Washington / Regional desk — Several countries, including the United States, are forming a regional task force to implement and oversee the Gaza ceasefire. The U.S. will deploy roughly 200 military personnel, who will be based in Israel to observe the ceasefire’s implementation.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said the specialized unit will be called the Civil-Military Coordination Center (CMCC). Besides monitoring the ceasefire in Gaza, the center will coordinate humanitarian assistance and security-related issues.

U.S. officials have confirmed that none of these personnel will enter the Gaza Strip; they will instead operate from Israel to provide oversight. The American service members assigned to the CMCC are specialists in planning, security, logistics, and engineering. Their responsibilities will include facilitating the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza, maintaining coordination with Israeli forces during ceasefire implementation, and helping prevent clashes between the parties. In addition to the United States, military personnel and representatives from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey will participate in the coordination center. It is also expected that the United Arab Emirates will join.

The task force’s headquarters location has not yet been finalized. However, it will function as a joint control center inside Israel, where progress on ceasefire implementation will be monitored in coordination with Israeli forces.

Earlier, the Israeli government approved a ceasefire and hostage-exchange agreement with Hamas — a move hailed by U.S. President Donald Trump as the first step toward ending the roughly two-year Gaza conflict.

Washington officials say the main purpose of sending the 200 U.S. personnel is to ensure the ceasefire’s durability and to create an effective framework for delivering humanitarian assistance to Gaza.

Local political sources said that due to the redemarcation of constituency boundaries and recent decisions by the Election Commission, there is a mixed reaction among voters. Furthermore, the presence of a large number of BNP nomination seekers has created internal complications and coordination challenges within the party.

The Brahmanbaria-2 constituency has around 410,000 registered voters, and BNP candidates have won multiple times from this seat in the past. In the 2001 national election, the BNP left this constituency for its four-party alliance partner, the Islami Oikya Jote, whose candidate Mufti Fazlul Haque Amini was elected as a Member of Parliament.

Can you say that I haven’t experienced any of these? I have gone through each and every stage — I was physically tortured, and I still bear those marks at times. I have endured imprisonment, and I have been the target of false propaganda. I have overcome all of these.”

Tarique Rahman added,
“That is why I want to make it clear — politics is not a matter of family inheritance. It is based on support and capability. Whoever can organize the people, unite the party, and lead it forward will be able to do so. If someone cannot, they won’t. Time and circumstance will determine everything.”

Regarding rumors about his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman and daughter Barrister Zaima Rahman entering politics, BBC Bangla asked whether there is any possibility of his family members joining politics.

In response, Tarique Rahman gave a tactful reply, saying:
“As I said earlier — time and circumstances will tell.”

Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), Mohammad Tazul Islam, has said that several significant developments are expected to occur within the next week. He made the statement while speaking to journalists at the premises of the International Crimes Tribunal on Monday (October 6).

Tazul Islam said, “The investigation reports of several high-profile enforced disappearance cases that took place during the Awami League government’s tenure will be submitted within a week. Addressing those who have expressed concerns over delays in trials, he said, “The formal charges being submitted in various cases are the answer to their doubts. Based on specific intelligence, a team of the Bangladesh Army conducted a raid and search operation on a secret hideout of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) in the deep jungle of Juboneshwar Para area under Panchhari Upazila of Khagrachhari district.

The operation was carried out at approximately 5:00 a.m. on Monday (October 6). However, sensing the presence of the army, UPDF’s top group commander, Sumen Chakma, managed to flee the scene. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) disclosed this information in an official press release.

According to the release, during the search, the army recovered one pistol, one magazine, two rounds of ammunition, 15 banners, two walkie-talkie chargers, two mobile phones, sharp weapons, and various other equipment used by the armed UPDF members.

আলোচনা সভায় প্রধান অতিথির বক্তব্যে জেলা প্রশাসক শারমিন আক্তার জাহান দুর্নীতির বিরুদ্ধে জিরো টলারেন্স নীতির কথা পুনর্ব্যক্ত করেন।

তিনি বলেন, “দুর্নীতি কেবল দেশের উন্নয়নকেই বাধাগ্রস্ত করে না, এটি একটি জাতির নৈতিক মেরুদণ্ড ভেঙে দেয়। আমাদের প্রত্যেককে নিজ নিজ অবস্থান থেকে সততা ও নিষ্ঠার সাথে দায়িত্ব পালন করতে হবে। সরকারি সেবা প্রদানে স্বচ্ছতা নিশ্চিত করতে হবে এবং সাধারণ মানুষ যেন কোনোভাবেই হয়রানির শিকার না হয়, সেদিকে সজাগ দৃষ্টি রাখতে হবে।

সভায় বিশেষ অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন পুলিশ সুপার শাহ মোঃ আব্দুর রউফ, স্থানীয় সরকার বিভাগের উপ-পরিচালক শরীফুল ইসলাম, সিভিল সার্জন ডা. মোঃ নোমান মিয়া, কৃষি সম্প্রসারণ অধিদপ্তরের উপ-পরিচালক ড. মোস্তফা এমরান হোসেন এবং সমাজসেবা কার্যালয়ের উপ-পরিচালক আব্দুল কাইয়ুম।

এছাড়া অন্যান্যের মধ্যে বক্তব্য রাখেন ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া প্রেসক্লাবের সভাপতি জাবেদ রহিম বিজন, ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া টেলিভিশন জার্নালিস্ট এসোসিয়েশনের সভাপতি আল আমিন শাহীন এবং দুর্নীতি দমন কমিশনের সহকারী পরিচালক তারেকুর রহমান।

বক্তারা বলেন, দুর্নীতি প্রতিরোধের জন্য কেবল আইন প্রয়োগই যথেষ্ট নয়, বরং এর জন্য প্রয়োজন সামাজিক সচেতনতা ও পারিবারিক মূল্যবোধের চর্চা। ভবিষ্যৎ প্রজন্মকে দুর্নীতিমুক্ত রাখতে এখন থেকেই প্রতিরোধমূলক ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণ করার আহ্বান জানান তারা।

শাহ্ পারভেজ সংগ্রাম গাইবান্ধা:মঙ্গলবার (৯ ডিসেম্বর) মহীয়সী নারী বেগম রোকেয়ার ১৪৫ তম জন্ম ৯৩ তম মৃত্যু দিবস উপলক্ষে গাইবান্ধা জেলার উদ্যোগে বেলা ১ টায় স্বাধীনতা রজতজয়ন্তী স্কুলে ছাত্রীদের নিয়ে আলোচনা সভা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।

আলোচনা সভায় বক্তব্য রাখেন,স্কুলের প্রধান শিক্ষক সুলতান ফারুক, শিক্ষিকা শিরিনা বেগম সংগঠনের কেন্দ্রীয় সাধারণ সম্পাদক এডভোকেট নিলুফার ইয়াসমিন শিল্পী,সাংগঠনিক সম্পাদক রাহেলা সিদ্দিকা প্রমুখ।

বক্তাগন বলেন, বেগম রোকেয়া নারী জাগরণের অগ্রদূত ছিলেন।তিনি সমাজের শত প্রতিকুলতা মোকবেলা করে অধিকার বঞ্চিত নারীদের মুক্তির আকুতি ধারন করে সংগ্রাম করেছেন। নারীদের শিক্ষা -সংস্কৃতি,আত্মনির্ভরশীলতার রুচি বিনির্মানে নিরন্তর সংগ্রাম করে অনন্য দৃষ্টান্ত স্থাপন করেছেন। তাকে শুধু লালন করাই নয়,তা বাস্তবায়নের জন্য ঐক্যবদ্ধ সংগ্রাম করা আজ সময়ের দাবী।

বক্তাগন সামাজিক অবক্ষয় রোধে অপসংস্কৃতি -অশ্লীলতা, নারী - শিশু নির্যাতন- ধর্ষণ -হত্যা, পর্নোগ্রাফি ও -সাম্প্রদায়িকতার বিরুদ্ধে ঐক্যবদ্ধ আন্দোলন গড়ে তোলার আহবান জানান।

লুৎফর সিকদার গোপালগঞ্জ:গোপালগঞ্জে নানা আয়োজনের মধ্যে দিয়ে আন্তর্জাতিক দুর্নীতি বিরোধী দিবস পালিত হয়েছে। জেলা প্রশাসন, দুর্নীতি দমন কমিশন ও জেলা দুর্নীতি প্রতিরোধ কমিটি এ কর্মসূচী পালন করে।

দুর্নীতির বিরুদ্ধে তারুণ্যের একতা-গড়বে আগামীর শুদ্ধতা” এই প্রতিপাদ্যে সোমবার সকাল ৯ টায় জেলা প্রশাসকের কার্যালয়ের সামনে সু-শাসন চত্তরে জাতীয় সংগীতের মাধ্যমে জাতীয় ও দুর্নীতি দমন কমিশনের পতাকা উত্তোলন করা হয়।

পরে সেখানে বেলুন উড়িয়ে দিবসটি উদ্বোধন করেন অতিরিক্ত জেলা প্রশাসক (সার্বিক) মো. গোলাম কবির। পরে জেলা প্রশাসকের কার্যালয়ের সামনের সড়কে মানববন্ধন কর্মসূচী পালন করা হয়। মানববন্ধন শেষে জেলা প্রশাসকের কার্যালয়ের হলরুমে অনুষ্ঠিত আলোচনা সভায় অতিরিক্ত জেলা প্রশাসক মো. গোলাম কবির, দূর্নীতি দমন অফিসের উপ-পরিচালক মোঃ মশিউর রহমানসহ অনেক বক্তব্য রাখেন।

সভায় বক্তারা বলেন, দূর্নীতি এখন সমাজের ক্যান্সার হয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছে। সাধারন মানুষ যাতে ক্ষতিগ্রস্থ না হয়, তাই সকলকে দূর্নীতি প্রতিরোধে এগিয়ে আসতে হবে।

মোঃ ইব্রাহিম আলী:দুর্নীতির বিরুদ্ধে তারুণ্যের একতা গড়বে আগামীর শুদ্ধতা—এই প্রতিপাদ্য বিষয় সামনে রেখে নাটোরের সিংড়ায় আন্তর্জাতিক দুর্নীতিবিরোধী দিবস পালন করা হয়েছে।

মঙ্গলবার (৯ ডিসেম্বর) সকাল ১০টায় উপজেলা প্রশাসনের আয়োজনে ও উপজেলা দুর্নীতি প্রতিরোধ কমিটির সহযোগিতায় এ দিবসটি আয়োজন করা হয়।

দিবসটি উপলক্ষে উপজেলা পরিষদ চত্বরে মানববন্ধন অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। মানববন্ধন শেষে উপজেলা পরিষদ হলরুমে এক আলোচনা সভা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। উক্ত সভায় সভাপতিত্ব করেন উপজেলা নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা আব্দুল্লাহ রিফাত।

আলোচনা সভায় উপস্থিত ছিলেন উপজেলা দুর্নীতি প্রতিরোধ কমিটির সভাপতি অধ্যাপক শফিকুল কবির, সদস্য সাইফুল ইসলাম, উপজেলা প্রকৌশলী কর্মকর্তা আহমেদ রফিক, উপজেলা প্রাণিসম্পদ কর্মকর্তা তাশরিফুল ইসলাম, উপজেলা সিনিয়র মৎস্য কর্মকর্তা মোঃ শাহাদাত হোসেন, উপজেলা কৃষি কর্মকর্তা কৃষিবিদ খন্দকার ফরিদসহ অন্যান্য কর্মকর্তাবৃন্দ ও সুধীজন।

এসময় বক্তারা দুর্নীতির বিরুদ্ধে সামাজিক সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধি এবং তরুণ সমাজকে ঐক্যবদ্ধ হওয়ার আহ্বান জানান।

দলীয় প্রতীক উদীয়মান সুর্য নিয়ে নির্বাচন করার প্রত্যাশা ব্যক্ত করে মুশতাক চৌধুরী বলেন, “সারাদেশের মানুষ এখন একটি নিরপেক্ষ নির্বাচনের অপেক্ষায়। আগামী জানুয়ারি থেকে ফেব্রুয়ারির মধ্যে নির্বাচন হবে এই বিশ্বাস থেকেই আমি প্রস্তুতি নিচ্ছি। আমার নির্বাচনী এলাকার জনগণের ভোটাধিকারের পক্ষে রাজপথে আছি।

তিনি বলেন, “৫ আগস্ট দেশের গণতান্ত্রিক আন্দোলনের মধ্য দিয়ে ফ্যাসিস্ট আওয়ামী সরকারের পতনের সূচনা হয়েছে। এখন সময় এসেছে পরিবর্তনের। জনগণের ভোটাধিকার নিশ্চিত করতে আমরা নতুনভাবে স্বপ্ন দেখছি।”তৃণমূল পর্যায়ে ব্যাপক সাংগঠনিক তৎপরতা শুরু করেছেন।

ডা: কামাল হোসেনের নেতৃত্ব এবং গণতন্ত্র ফিরিয়ে আনার কর্মসূচি তুলে ধরছি। নতুন ভোটারদের প্রসঙ্গে।

মুশতাক চৌধুরী বলেন, “দলের সভাপতি ডা: কামাল হোসেন দীর্ঘদিন ধরে দেশের ভোটাধিকার ফিরিয়ে আনার আন্দোলনে নেতৃত্ব দিচ্ছেন। আজ দেশের যুবসমাজ ও সাধারণ মানুষ ভোট দিতে চায়,পরিবর্তন চায়। তরুণ ভোটাররা যেন ভয়হীনভাবে মত প্রকাশ করতে পারে,এই স্বাধীনতার জন্যই ডা: কামাল হোসেন সংগ্রাম করে যাচ্ছেন।

দলের প্রতি নিজের রাজনৈতিক অঙ্গীকার তুলে ধরে মুশতাক চৌধুরী বলেন, “আমি ছাত্র রাজনীতি থেকে উঠে আসা একজন তৃণমূল কর্মী। আমি রাজনীতি থাকা অবস্থায়ও সাধারণ মানুষের পাশে ছিলাম। আমার অভিজ্ঞতা, নীতিশিক্ষা ও জনগণের ভালোবাসা নিয়েই আমি আগামী নির্বাচনে উদীয়মান সুর্য প্রতীকের মনোনীত এমপি পদপ্রার্থী।

সাক্ষাৎকারের শেষভাগে তিনি বলেন, “আমার নির্বাচনী এলাকার সব শ্রেণি-পেশার মানুষের প্রতি কৃতজ্ঞতা জানাই। আমি দোয়া চাই, ভালোবাসা চাই এই গণতান্ত্রিক লড়াইয়ে আপনাদের সঙ্গেই আমার এগিয়ে যাওয়া।
