At least 38 Palestinians were killed on Monday (June 30) in ongoing Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip, according to The Guardian. While there are indications that potential ceasefire talks are beginning under the mediation of the United States, Qatar, and Egypt, Israeli air and ground assaults have intensified.

Eyewitnesses reported that Israeli airstrikes and tank fire devastated homes in the Deir al-Balah and Jabalia refugee camp areas of Gaza. Rescue workers have retrieved the bodies of women and children from the rubble.

The Israeli military claims it is targeting Hamas and Islamic Jihad strongholds and weapons depots. However, the increasing civilian casualties and infrastructure destruction have sparked widespread international criticism.

Meanwhile, reports from Washington, D.C. suggest that U.S., Qatari, and Israeli diplomats have initiated discussions over a "step-by-step" ceasefire draft proposal. The primary goal of the talks is to first secure a temporary truce, with the aim of achieving a permanent ceasefire later.

The United Nations and human rights organizations have expressed concern that continued attacks during the initial phase of peace talks could undermine the credibility of the negotiations.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated, “Operations against terrorists will continue until they are completely eliminated.” On the other hand, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas condemned the attacks as “crimes against humanity” and called for urgent international intervention.

🔴 Key Points:

• At least 38 people killed on June 30 alone
• Israeli strikes intensify on the eve of ceasefire negotiations
• Gaza hospitals face overcrowding and medicine shortages
• U.S.-Qatar mediation raises hopes for a ceasefire

👉 Analysis:
The situation reflects a contradiction: while diplomatic pathways are opening, warfare on the ground persists. The success of peace efforts will depend on effective compromise from both sides and sustained international pressure.

Liton Hossain Jihad: “Getting rich overnight”—the phrase rings like magic to many ears. Amid economic uncertainty, rising living costs, and dreams of financial freedom, countless people long for a shortcut to wealth. But here lies a crucial question: is it possible, or merely a fantasy driven by desperation and digital illusions?

Experts say the desire to get rich quickly is not new, but today's internet-driven world—with viral stories, influencer lifestyles, and speculative trends—has made the idea more tempting than ever. Especially among youth, there's a growing belief that one smart move—an app, a video, a coin—could change their lives forever.

The Timeless Allure of Sudden Wealth

From lottery tickets to crypto investments, viral content to online gambling—there’s no shortage of supposed “shortcuts” to wealth. Indeed, some individuals have seemingly achieved overnight success. Their stories are widely circulated, fueling hope in millions.

But the reality?
According to a global financial behavior study, more than 85% of people who pursue high-risk, fast-income schemes suffer significant financial losses. Psychologists call this obsession the “get-rich-quick syndrome”—a condition that clouds judgment and leads to impulsive decision-making.

Lottery Dreams and Harsh Realities

Worldwide, the lottery industry is a multi-billion-dollar machine, built on hope. In Bangladesh too, many people try their luck in various legal and illegal lottery systems.

But statistically, the chances of hitting a major jackpot are one in tens of millions. And what's more alarming—numerous reports show that lottery winners often lose their wealth within a few years, falling into debt, depression, or social isolation.

The Viral Illusion: Social Media Fame and Fortune

Platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram have created a new breed of digital millionaires. It's true that some creators, even in Bangladesh, have made a fortune through viral content or influencer marketing.

Yet, the success rate is under 5%, and for every viral success, there are thousands who struggle in silence. Content creation is not just about creativity—it’s a game of algorithms, timing, trends, and luck.

When Fast Money Leads to Scams

One of the most dangerous modern trends is the rise of online scams posing as “investment opportunities.” Fake crypto projects, Ponzi schemes, or shady forex deals lure people in with promises of 10x returns in days.

The Bangladesh Bank recently reported over 70 digital financial scams operating in the last 3 years, all targeting people with the “overnight wealth” mindset. Many victims lost their life savings.

Smart Alternatives: Fast, but Sustainable

While there's no magic formula, experts suggest several legitimate paths that can lead to financial stability—and even wealth—more quickly than traditional 9-to-5 jobs.

● Skill-Based Freelancing

Digital skills such as graphic design, video editing, programming, content writing, or digital marketing can be learned within months. Platforms like Upwork, Fiverr, and Freelancer offer opportunities for consistent income.

● Entrepreneurship

Starting a small online business—selling fashion, food, or handmade products—via Facebook or Instagram is now more accessible than ever. Many successful brands began as side hustles.

● Passive Income Streams

Blogging, affiliate marketing, YouTube monetization, and online course creation can generate income over time with sustained effort.

The Psychology of “Quick Money”

Our brains are wired to crave instant rewards. The idea of effortless gain triggers dopamine—the same pleasure hormone linked to addiction. As a result, we may chase high-risk paths, ignoring logic.

Dr. Farhana Islam, a psychology professor at the University of Dhaka, says:

“The dream of getting rich overnight creates unrealistic expectations. When reality doesn’t meet these expectations, it leads to frustration, anxiety, and sometimes even social withdrawal.”

Redefining Success

True wealth is not only measured in money. Health, mental peace, relationships, and social contribution are equally important. Seeking quick cash at the expense of peace often leads to long-term regret.

Final Thoughts: Wealth Through Patience

Overnight riches are rare exceptions—not the rule. Most wealthy individuals reached their position through years of discipline, learning from failure, and building over time.

As financial advisor Rezaul Karim puts it:
“If you want to get rich, don’t try to jump—learn how to climb, quickly but steadily.”

So today, instead of buying into the dream of instant success, start developing a skill, build a smart income source, and invest your energy wisely.

Let us remember—
The goal is not just to be rich fast, but to stay rich forever.

June 30 is being observed globally as Social Media Day. The day was first celebrated in 2010 by the American news platform Mashable, with the goal of recognizing the impact and relevance of internet-based social platforms. In 2025, this day is no longer just about celebration—it also raises a critical question: Are we truly connecting, or are we becoming addicted?

The Rise of Social Media: A New Era of Connection

Social media has brought the world to our fingertips. Platforms like Facebook, Twitter (now X), Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, LinkedIn, and WhatsApp have not only made global communication easier but have also revolutionized information sharing, free speech, business, journalism, and activism. During the COVID-19 pandemic, these platforms became even more vital, keeping people connected while physically isolated.

On average, people now spend about 2 hours and 30 minutes on social media daily—this number is even higher in South Asian countries. In Bangladesh, for example, the average time surpasses 3 hours. This time isn’t just spent communicating; social media now plays a central role in entertainment, news, learning, and even shopping.

Falling into the Abyss of Addiction

However, amid this connectivity arises a concerning question—are we controlling technology, or is technology controlling us? Numerous studies have shown that excessive use of social media can lead to stress, lack of self-esteem, depression, sleep disorders, reduced productivity, and strained relationships.

Experts describe this pattern as the dopamine loop—a new notification, like, or share triggers the brain’s reward system, prompting us to keep checking again and again. Over time, what starts as a social habit slowly transforms into an addiction.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has already issued warnings about "digital addiction." Individuals between the ages of 18 to 35 are the most vulnerable, often facing distractions at work, academic decline, and weakened family bonds.

Misinformation and Privacy Breaches

Social media allows information to spread instantly—but the problem is that much of it is false or unverified. A 2020 study revealed that fake news spreads six times faster than the truth on social media. This misinformation can lead to confusion, panic, and even violence.

Another significant concern is privacy. Users, often unknowingly, share a large amount of personal data with these platforms, which is then sold to advertisers. User preferences, movements, and even conversations are analyzed to show targeted content. This not only violates privacy but also makes it easier to manipulate people’s behavior.

Digital Health and Balance: A Timely Need

It is now more important than ever to focus on digital health এবং digital hygiene. Digital health means using social media and technology in a way that enriches—rather than harms—our mental, social, and physical well-being.

Experts recommend a few strategies:

1. Set Screen Time Limits: Avoid using social media beyond a specific daily limit.
2. Practice Digital Detox: Designate one day a week or a few days each month to disconnect completely from technology.
3. Control Notifications: Turn off unnecessary alerts to improve focus.
4. Ensure Quality Sleep and Exercise: Avoid screens before bedtime and maintain physical activity.
5. Choose Positive Content: Steer clear of depressing or negative content that affects mental health.

The Way Forward: Mindful Usage

Social media is now an inseparable part of life. It cannot—and need not—be abandoned. What we need instead is mindful and balanced usage. Let technology empower us, not overpower us. Let us use these platforms to understand others, express our thoughts, and build a better society.

On this Social Media Day, let’s not just celebrate these platforms but also reflect on how we use them. Connection is powerful—but when it starts disconnecting us from real life, it becomes addiction.

So, in 2025, the question still stands:

Are we using social media, or is social media using us?

Technology is never the enemy—if we know how to use it right. So, let’s take a pledge this Social Media Day:
Let’s stay connected, but with control.

Liton Hossian Jihad: One of the most alarming and widely discussed social maladies of our time is the unrestrained use of social media, and the growing tendency to commercialize personal life for public consumption.
Once, social platforms were spaces for the exchange of ideas, creativity, and free expression. Today, they have become arenas of unhealthy competition—for views, likes, and viral fame.

Nowadays, it is common to witness personal disputes—between husbands and wives, lovers, or even within families—being broadcast live on Facebook or uploaded to YouTube. Some people, astonishingly, record even the most private, domestic conflicts and package them as "content." The sole objective? To gain more views, earn money, and go viral.

A recent and horrifying example from Muradnagar in Comilla has once again pointed to the reality of the society we live in. A woman was brutally assaulted, stripped, and the entire act was recorded and shared on social media. In this society, human dignity, pain, or safety takes a backseat—what matters is the content potential of such inhumane incidents.

No one seems concerned about who is watching or sharing these videos. Some justify it by saying, “She was having an affair,” or “Someone broke in to assault her.” Regardless of the truth, one thing is undeniable—recording and distributing a video of a helpless woman being stripped and beaten has somehow become normalized.

This mindset is terrifying. It doesn't just threaten individual dignity or safety—it is putting the very moral backbone of society at risk. Today it’s Karim’s story that goes viral, tomorrow it’ll be Rahim’s. Privacy has become a toy, and human beings have been reduced to mere “content.”

To stop this growing trend, we must act simultaneously on three fronts—social, familial, and legal.
First, digital literacy must be promoted so that people learn what is appropriate to share and what is not.
Second, strict enforcement of the law is essential, especially to ensure that victims aren’t blamed and that those who record and distribute such content are punished swiftly.
Third, value-based education must be revived within families and communities, so that children grow up learning to respect privacy and dignity as essential human responsibilities.

If we fail to address this moral disease at its root, we are heading toward a society where trust will be extinct. Bengali culture, relationships, and humanity itself will become nothing more than material for dramatic exposure and viral trends.

We must remember—social media may have given us the freedom to think and create, but it has also opened the door to a moral abyss.
If we do not awaken now, we will leave behind a future society that is stripped of compassion, sensitivity, and ethics.

And perhaps, in that world, we will all go viral—but no one will remember us as human beings.

Liton Hossain Jihad:  Raising a child is not just about helping them grow physically—it’s about shaping their character, values, and behavior to become a good human being. Parents play the most critical role in this process. The foundation of a strong family, a moral society, and a successful nation lies in raising children with the right values. Therefore, developing honesty, empathy, self-control, and a sense of responsibility in children should be a top priority for every parent.

1. Teach Values from Early Childhood

Children must be taught essential human values such as truthfulness, compassion, politeness, responsibility, and kindness from a young age. Since children learn more by observing than by listening, parents must lead by example. If you show respect to others, speak the truth, and follow rules, your child is more likely to adopt those same habits.

2. Give Time and Attention

Providing food and clothing is not enough. Children need your time, attention, and emotional presence. Listen to them attentively, understand their thoughts, and engage in meaningful conversations. This helps develop their confidence and ability to differentiate right from wrong.

3. Balance Between Discipline and Affection

Raising a child well requires a healthy balance of discipline and love. Don't just scold or punish—explain why something is wrong. On the other hand, appreciate and encourage good behavior. This helps the child understand what is acceptable and what is not.

4. Create an Environment for Learning

Education is not limited to textbooks. Help your child explore the world, nature, and real-life situations. Encourage reading habits, curiosity, and fact-based discussions. This stimulates critical thinking and a lifelong love for learning.

5. Limit Technology Wisely

In today’s world, children grow up surrounded by technology. While it can be a powerful tool, overuse can be harmful. Set time limits for screen use, and offer creative, real-world alternatives like games, crafts, or outdoor activities.

6. Involve Them in Social and Moral Activities

Introduce your child to social realities and responsibilities. Teach them to respect elders, help the needy, and care for the environment. Participating in religious and community activities can help build compassion and a sense of duty.

7. Love Them Even When They Make Mistakes

Children are human, and they will make mistakes. Instead of harsh punishment, support them and help them learn from those errors. This builds resilience and teaches them to take responsibility for their actions.

In conclusion, raising a child into a good human being is a continuous journey filled with patience, understanding, and commitment. With love, guidance, and consistent values, any parent can nurture their child into a kind, responsible, and honest individual. Your child is your reflection—be the person you want them to become.
