A 54-inch diameter water pipeline belonging to the Water and Sewerage Corporation burst in Karachi’s Shah Latif Town area, leading to the suspension of water supply across several neighborhoods and causing significant hardship for residents.

Thousands of gallons of water flowed onto roads and went to waste following the breach in the main supply conduit. The burst severely impacted the city’s overall water distribution system.

The suspension affected key residential and commercial zones, including Shah Latif Town, Bhains Colony, Landhi, and adjacent settlements, leaving citizens facing acute water shortages.

According to sources, the pipeline damage occurred during an alleged attempt by a lineman to establish an illegal connection for water theft. The line was damaged while the unauthorized connection was being attempted, leading to the rupture.

However, officials from the Water and Sewerage Corporation have neither confirmed nor denied the allegations regarding the illegal connection and attempted water theft.

The Chief Engineer of the Water Corporation stated that the pipeline was damaged during the day. Upon receiving the information, repair teams took immediate action to address the situation.

Authorities confirmed that repair work on the affected 54-inch pipeline has been completed, and normal water supply to the impacted areas is expected to be restored shortly.
