Three Children Hospitalized After Double-Decker School Bus Roof Ripped Off in Bridge Crash
Three children were taken to the hospital after a double-decker school bus collided with a railway bridge in Newport, Wales, tearing off the vehicle's roof.

Three children have been injured after a double-decker school bus crashed into a railway bridge in Newport, Wales, causing the roof of the vehicle to be completely ripped off during the morning commute on Tuesday.
Gwent Police stated that emergency services received reports of the collision on Tregare Street at approximately 07:45 BST. The bus was transporting pupils to Ysgol Gyfun Gwent Is Coed, a Welsh-medium secondary school located on Duffryn Way in Newport.
According to police authorities, the injuries sustained by the three pupils are not believed to be life-threatening. However, all three children were taken to the hospital for medical treatment following the incident.
Emergency response crews from the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service alongside the Welsh Ambulance Service quickly attended the scene. Authorities closed the affected road, and traffic diversions were put in place as recovery operations began.
The impact occurred when the double-decker bus struck a railway bridge at Maindee West, situated between Newport and Cwmbran. A recovery vehicle was subsequently dispatched to remove the damaged bus from under the structure.
The collision has also caused significant disruption to local rail transport. Transport for Wales reported that train services between Newport and Hereford were cancelled in both directions, with delays expected to continue while safety inspections were carried out on the bridge.
Transport officials confirmed that trains cannot cross the bridge until structural engineers thoroughly inspect the line to ensure it is safe for rail travel.
In a statement, Newport Council said it was working closely with emergency services at the scene. The council emphasized that its immediate priority remains ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals involved in the collision.
