Bournemouth surged to a 2-0 first-half lead over AC Milan in their UEFA Europa League clash, taking control after a dramatic incident led to a red card for Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan and a second penalty for the English side.

The home side put early pressure on the Italian giants, with Justin Kluivert threatening the Milan goal twice in the opening minutes. Kluivert was first dispossessed in the penalty box before firing another effort directly at Maignan following an error in Milan's attempt to play out from the back.

The match exploded into action around the 26th minute when Maignan parried a deflected shot from Bournemouth defender James Hill. Following the play, Maignan clashed with Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams at the resulting corner, pushing him in the face. The referee issued a straight red card, which was subsequently confirmed by a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review.

Following Maignan's dismissal, Milan manager Ruben Amorim brought on 21-year-old replacement goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani, withdrawing Omari Hutchinson to make space for the substitute keeper.

Marcus Tavernier stepped up to convert the resulting penalty, extending Bournemouth's lead to 2-0. Bournemouth continued to dominate the first half, creating further chances through Adrien Truffert, Ben Gannon-Doak, and a Tavernier free-kick that narrowly missed the top corner.

At the half-time whistle, Bournemouth held a commanding 2-0 advantage over a ten-man Milan side, while other UEFA Europa League fixtures also reached the interval across Europe.

In other matches across the competition, Besiktas secured a 1-0 lead over Crystal Palace thanks to a stoppage-time goal from Wilfrid Ndidi in the 47th minute. Real Sociedad took a convincing 3-0 lead over Lillestrom, powered by a double from Sergio Gomez.

Elsewhere, Celtic and Celta Vigo remained deadlocked at 0-0 at half-time, while Olympiacos and Sparta Prague also held a goalless scoreline. Anderlecht led Jagiellonia Bialystock 1-0, Salzburg took a 1-0 advantage over Celje, and Levski Sofia led Viktoria Plzen 1-0.

In Cyprus, Omonia Nicosia held Benfica to a 1-1 draw at the break after Claudio Echeverri opened the scoring for Benfica in the 14th minute. Meanwhile, Hoffenheim carried a 1-0 lead into half-time against Lyon after extended first-half stoppage time.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced full federal backing and resources for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), assuring that the central government and Field Marshal General Asim Munir will work dedicatedly for the province's development. The announcement came during a meeting of the Development Council and tribal elders representing the merged tribal districts, which was attended by both the Prime Minister and Field Marshal Asim Munir.

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the tribal elders and acknowledged their steadfast support for Pakistan. He highlighted the extensive sacrifices made by tribal communities due to terrorism, expressing deep respect for their contributions. Reflecting on regional challenges, he remarked that developmental progress in the province had stalled amid rampant corruption and rising terrorism over the past 13 years.

The Prime Minister detailed that prior to the meeting, a two-and-a-half-hour discussion was held regarding developmental projects, police capacity, and administrative matters. To support these initiatives, the federal government will provide PKR 160 billion for development work in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He emphasized the need to enhance police capabilities and expedite Safe City projects, promising full federal assistance for counter-terrorism efforts.

Regarding food security, Shehbaz Sharif assured that wheat supplies from PASCO stores would be made available to meet the province's needs. He instructed the Provincial Governor to ensure that wheat is distributed at federally controlled prices without any hoarding or artificial shortages.

The Prime Minister severely criticized corruption in the province, citing a major PKR 100 billion scandal involving drinking water projects and a PKR 37 billion fraud case in Kohistan. He pledged strict measures against the corruption that has targeted provincial resources, promising that every rupee would be directed toward public welfare.

During the meeting, tribal elders thanked the Prime Minister for prioritizing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's situation and expressed full cooperation in resolving regional problems. They urged that the Development Council be empowered to effectively address local issues, noting that residents had suffered under severe governance challenges for over a decade.

Concluding his address, Shehbaz Sharif stated that the federal government, along with the advisory council, governor, and elected tribal representatives, would urgently implement structural changes and push delayed projects to rapid completion.

A masked teenager who was captured on CCTV stabbing a schoolgirl has been found guilty of attempted murder following a trial at King's Lynn Crown Court.

Armed police were called to Thorpe St Andrew School, near Norwich, on Wednesday 11 March after reports that a 15-year-old girl had been stabbed in the back.

The court heard that the defendant, who is 16 and cannot be named for legal reasons, brought a kitchen knife to the school grounds while dressed in black and wearing a face mask.

Prosecutors told the court that the teenager had written notes expressing a hatred for women, stating that he "went to school not to learn, but to kill."

The government of Pakistan has issued fresh directives requiring civil servants across all ministries and divisions to declare their foreign nationality status within 90 days. The mandate was formally communicated through an office memorandum released by the Establishment Division regarding the enforcement of the Foreign Nationality Rules 2026.

Under the newly issued regulations, public servants are required to submit comprehensive declarations regarding their citizenship status, travel documents, and dual nationality. The official order extends to the dependents of civil servants, demanding full disclosure of their foreign citizenship and travel records.

A standardized proforma has been provided to facilitate the submission of these declarations. According to the memorandum, officials must also submit formal declarations if they are married to foreign citizens.

All federal ministries and administrative divisions have been directed to ensure that their staff comply with the reporting process. The government aims to collect full details regarding dual citizenship, foreign spouses, and dependent status across the civil service workforce.

The latest directive follows earlier instructions issued by the government regarding dual citizenship and foreign nationality rules. In a previous warning, the Establishment Division alerted all departments that failure to comply with these orders or providing false information would trigger formal disciplinary proceedings.

The memorandum explicitly states that submitting a false declaration will be treated as official misconduct. Officers who fail to comply with the order or provide inaccurate details will face departmental action under the Civil Servants (Efficiency and Discipline) Rules, 2020.

Furthermore, the government has signaled that non-compliant officials could face additional legal action beyond internal disciplinary proceedings as the enforcement of foreign nationality rules moves forward.

France is standing on the brink of a severe fiscal crisis as it struggles to handle debt accumulated well beyond its financial capacity. Repayment deadlines are fast approaching alongside rising energy prices and surging bond yields, leaving the nation with limited options to balance its books.

Raising taxes and cutting public expenditures represent the most likely remedies, but both measures carry heavy political risks. These steps threaten to trigger public discontent and face resistance within France's current coalition government comprising centrist and right-wing political factions.

The fiscal pressure is not limited to France. Similar challenges involving rapid debt expansion, elevated debt-servicing costs, and tough governance choices have become defining characteristics across Western economies, including the United Kingdom and the United States.

Key structural differences set the French economy apart from the American model. A massive social security system absorbs the bulk of public spending in France, whereas the distinct dynamics of the US economy currently reduce the risk of Washington experiencing a similar immediate fallout.

Economists and political analysts have long warned about the vulnerability of European social safety nets, noting that sustained spending inevitably creates severe repayment burdens. The crisis in the Middle East involving Iran has further exacerbated fiscal pressure on Western governments.

The International Monetary Fund reported last week that average returns on 10-year government bonds for G7 nations have risen by more than 1 percentage point since February, reaching a 20-year high. By the end of this decade, total public debt across the G7—comprising the US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Canada—is projected to exceed their combined economic output for the first time since World War II.

France's public debt stands at nearly 119 percent of its Gross Domestic Product, nearly double the target set by the European Union. Its annual budget deficit has reached 5.4 percent of GDP. Peter Taylor-Gooby, a professor of social policy at the University of Kent, noted growing concerns in Europe over bond markets and government borrowing costs, stressing that the situation can no longer be ignored.

The United States also faces significant fiscal figures on paper, with public debt reaching $32 trillion—nearly equal to its annual GDP. Its budget deficit for the recently ended fiscal year stood at $2 trillion, exceeding 6 percent of GDP, while annual interest payments on government debt recently topped $1 trillion, consuming one out of every seven dollars collected in taxes.

Despite these numbers, the US avoids an immediate crisis of French proportions due to the global demand for the US dollar, which serves as the primary reserve currency and standard for international transactions, including oil and gold. Strong demand for US Treasury bonds keeps borrowing rates lower compared to other Western peers.

The US economy also benefits from its scale, diversity, and significant growth in sectors such as artificial intelligence, which helps dilute the impact of budget deficits by maintaining overall economic expansion. Moody's Analytics Chief Economist Mark Zandi noted that while France and the UK face similar circumstances, AI-driven growth in the US enhances its ability to manage debt easily.

However, analysts caution against complacency in Washington. Political dynamics, including upcoming midterm elections and potential shifts in congressional control, could turn the debt ceiling into a major point of political bargaining in the future.

The Pakistan government has proposed imposing an Automotive Development Levy on locally manufactured and imported vehicles with engine capacities exceeding 1,000cc. According to official sources, the proposal comes as part of the country's new auto policy, which is being finalized in consultation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Sources revealed that the initial approved draft of the auto policy will be sent to the IMF for approval. The multilateral lender had previously demanded the imposition of an 18 percent sales tax on electric vehicles. However, the government has suggested alternative revenue-generating measures to compensate for the potential tax losses while attempting to protect lower-priced electric vehicles.

Under the proposed alternatives, a 10 percent Federal Excise Duty (FED) is recommended for electric vehicles valued above $75,000. Officials believe this measure could help maintain a reduced sales tax of 1 percent on lower-priced electric vehicles.

Consultations with the IMF will also cover the imposition of an additional Federal Excise Duty on luxury vehicles valued at over 20 million Pakistani rupees.

According to relevant documents, the proposed Automotive Development Levy on locally produced vehicles over 1,000cc includes a 2 percent levy on vehicles above 1,000cc and up to 10 percent on vehicles with engine capacities reaching 2,001cc.

Projections suggest that revenue generated from the automotive levy on light vehicles could increase from 37 billion rupees to 188 billion rupees over the next five years. Similarly, collections from buses and trucks under the same levy are expected to grow from 45 billion rupees to 232 billion rupees over the five-year period.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has granted final approval for Boeing's long-delayed 737 Max 10 passenger aircraft, paving the way for the plane manufacturer to begin customer deliveries. According to Reuters, Boeing expects the first delivery of the model to be handed over to Canadian carrier WestJet early next year.

Boeing had been seeking certification for the Max 10 model since the early 2020s. Designed to accommodate up to 230 passengers, the variant represents the largest member of the 737 Max family. To date, Boeing has secured over 1,550 orders for the Max 10, accounting for approximately 31 percent of its total pending 737 order book. The manufacturer anticipates that deliveries of the model will play an important role in its ongoing financial recovery.

During the protracted certification delays, European competitor Airbus expanded its market share in the large single-aisle aircraft segment with its A321neo model. Major airlines that have placed orders for the Max 10 include United Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Ryanair, Delta Air Lines, and American Airlines.

The regulatory scrutiny and certification procedures for Boeing aircraft were significantly intensified following two fatal crashes involving the 737 Max 8 in 2018 and 2019, which resulted in 346 deaths. Oversight of the manufacturer's production and safety systems was further tightened after a January 2024 incident in which a cabin panel detached mid-flight from an Alaska Airlines Max 9 jet.

As part of the certification process, the FAA mandated critical technical upgrades for the Max 10, including enhancements to flight systems and angle-of-attack sensors. These modifications are set to be retrofitted into aircraft already in operation over the coming years. Issues concerning engine anti-icing systems and navigation software also contributed to the approval delays, though the FAA determined that a recent software issue did not pose a threat to the aircraft's safety.

Boeing expects to secure regulatory approvals from aviation authorities in Canada and the European Union, a process the company estimates could be completed within a few months. Meanwhile, members of Boeing's team will focus on securing certification for the 777-9 aircraft, a program currently running six years behind schedule. The company hopes to gain approval and begin deliveries for the 777-9 in 2027.

US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy welcomed the certification milestone during a visit to a Boeing facility, stating that accelerating the approval process is essential to maintaining the competitiveness of the American aerospace manufacturing sector.

The head of the Khudi orphan center in Multan has stated that the legal guardian of 15-year-old Waseem Abbas was taken into confidence before the teenager was placed with contractor Tauqeer Nazir. The statement comes following the tragic death of the boy, who was struck and killed by a speeding vehicle driven by the contractor.

Shoaib Hyder, head of the Khudi orphan center, told ARY News that Waseem's paternal uncle served as his legal guardian. According to Hyder, the uncle had requested that the child receive training so he could earn a living. Based on that request, Waseem was placed with Nazir to learn electrical work.

Hyder clarified that the center had received no prior complaints regarding the contractor, noting that Waseem had been sent to work with him only seven to eight days before the fatal incident occurred. The center chief also addressed questions regarding the institution's legal status, revealing that Khudi is currently registered with the Punjab Charity Commission and has applied for registration with the Child Protection & Welfare Bureau Punjab, with approval expected soon.

The Khudi center currently provides care for 150 orphans. Waseem Abbas, originally a resident of Muzaffargarh, had been admitted to the institution in 2021 alongside his brother and cousin, according to center officials.

The incident occurred in a private housing society in Multan, where Waseem died after being hit by a speeding car. Multan police subsequently arrested Tauqeer Nazir, accused of chasing the teenager in his vehicle, and seized the car involved. A formal case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.

In his initial statement to the police, Nazir acknowledged that Waseem was learning electrical work under his supervision. The suspect claimed the boy frequently left work without permission and that he had attempted to catch him. Nazir stated he drove his car behind the teenager intending only to stop him.

Police reports indicate that after the teenager left the job, the contractor initially pursued him on foot. Nazir then followed him in a car accompanied by another individual, identified as Amjad Ali. During the chase, the speeding vehicle hit Waseem, causing him to strike the gate of a house. He died at the scene.

Orphanage administrator Jawad Haider confirmed that Waseem was an orphan living at the facility who had been assigned to Nazir for vocational learning. Police confirmed that comprehensive investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing.

Play resumed 15 minutes earlier than scheduled on day three of the second Test between South Africa and Australia at St George’s Park in Gqeberha, following two days heavily disrupted by rain. With sunny conditions and temperatures reaching 20 degrees Celsius, South Africa restarted their first innings from 97 for 5, looking to recover lost ground after only 43 overs were possible over the opening two days.

Scott Boland, who took four wickets for 31 runs across the first two days, opened the bowling attack alongside Australian captain Pat Cummins. Boland quickly tested South African captain Temba Bavuma and Wiaan Mulder, though Mulder managed early boundaries, including a deflection off Boland's fielding attempt at fine leg to bring up South Africa’s hundred.

Australia broke through in the 50th over when Mitchell Starc delivered a targeted bouncer to Mulder. After facing five full-pitched deliveries, Mulder was squared up by the short ball, deflecting a blow off his glove and helmet to slip. Although the on-field umpire initially ruled no edge, a review requested by Starc and Matt Renshaw confirmed the contact via soundwave analysis, leaving South Africa at 110 for 6.

Marco Jansen joined Bavuma at the crease and took an aggressive approach. Jansen hit several quick boundaries, including an on-drive off Boland and a straight drive over long-off for six. Bavuma remained composed at the other end, reaching his half-century with a glance to the leg-side boundary off Starc in the 54th over.

Josh Hazlewood was restricted from bowling early in the session due to regulations regarding time spent off the field due to illness on day two. As a result, Cummins and Starc rotated the bowling duties before the drinks break, with Boland continuing his spell from the opposite end.

Jansen continued his counter-attack against Cummins, pulling a short ball just over the boundary fielder at deep square leg for six. In the 60th over, Cummins nearly bowled Jansen with a late yorker that narrowly missed the off stump, leaving South Africa at 173 for 6, with Bavuma on 61 and Jansen on 44.

Dengue remains a persistent threat in Bangladesh, filling hospitals and claiming lives every year. Addressing this public health crisis requires more than mosquito control and awareness campaigns; effective vaccines and targeted antiviral medications are critical to mitigating the disease's impact across the country.

Developing dengue treatments presents global challenges. Because dengue does not severely impact developed nations like the United States, major pharmaceutical entities rarely invest the billions required to bring new drugs to market. Furthermore, dengue's four distinct serotypes (DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4) make universal prevention difficult. Research indicates shifting prevalence in Bangladesh, with icddr,b identifying DENV-2 as dominant in 2024, while an IIEDCR study showed higher DENV-3 cases in 2026.

Currently, the Japanese pharmaceutical firm Takeda produces Qdenga, a vaccine approved for use in various countries, including India following Phase 3 trials. However, Qdenga does not offer equal efficacy against all dengue serotypes. Moreover, no dengue-specific antiviral drugs have received regulatory approval from the US FDA or the European Medicines Agency (EMA), leaving Bangladeshi drug manufacturers unable to produce generic equivalents.

A potential breakthrough exists in Mosnodenvir, a small-molecule antiviral initially discovered in the laboratory of a virologist at KU Leuven in Belgium. Global pharmaceutical company Johnson & Johnson subsequently conducted Phase 1 and Phase 2a clinical trials. Although the company halted further trials, experts suggest the decision stemmed from commercial considerations rather than safety or efficacy issues, as published scientific data revealed no significant toxicity in early trials.

Mosnodenvir functions as a pan-serotype antiviral, demonstrating potential effectiveness against all four dengue serotypes in pre-clinical tests and strong prophylactic results. Scientific papers published late last year by Johnson & Johnson and highlighted in the journal Science attracted the attention of expatriate Bangladeshi researchers, including a staff scientist at the University of Chicago.

Expatriate Bangladeshi scientists subsequently consulted with Professor Johan Neyts of KU Leuven, whose lab discovered the molecule. Following detailed reviews of the data presented by Professor Neyts' team, the researchers concluded that Mosnodenvir holds significant promise for dengue treatment in Bangladesh.

To move the drug forward, Bangladesh could undertake Phase 2b therapeutic clinical trials. Institutions such as icddr,b possess substantial experience in managing such trials. If successful, the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) could consider Emergency Use Authorization, enabling local pharmaceutical firms or a national alliance to license and manufacture the medication to address the country's public health needs.

Three children have been injured after a double-decker school bus crashed into a railway bridge in Newport, Wales, causing the roof of the vehicle to be completely ripped off during the morning commute on Tuesday.

Gwent Police stated that emergency services received reports of the collision on Tregare Street at approximately 07:45 BST. The bus was transporting pupils to Ysgol Gyfun Gwent Is Coed, a Welsh-medium secondary school located on Duffryn Way in Newport.

According to police authorities, the injuries sustained by the three pupils are not believed to be life-threatening. However, all three children were taken to the hospital for medical treatment following the incident.

Emergency response crews from the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service alongside the Welsh Ambulance Service quickly attended the scene. Authorities closed the affected road, and traffic diversions were put in place as recovery operations began.

The impact occurred when the double-decker bus struck a railway bridge at Maindee West, situated between Newport and Cwmbran. A recovery vehicle was subsequently dispatched to remove the damaged bus from under the structure.

The collision has also caused significant disruption to local rail transport. Transport for Wales reported that train services between Newport and Hereford were cancelled in both directions, with delays expected to continue while safety inspections were carried out on the bridge.

Transport officials confirmed that trains cannot cross the bridge until structural engineers thoroughly inspect the line to ensure it is safe for rail travel.

In a statement, Newport Council said it was working closely with emergency services at the scene. The council emphasized that its immediate priority remains ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals involved in the collision.

Bangladesh Under-15 football team captain Fahim Hasan has stated that his side aims to finish as group champions in the upcoming FIFA U-15 Festival and World Cup taking place in Azerbaijan.

For the first time, world football's governing body FIFA has expanded the Under-15 Festival into a global event. A total of 191 countries are participating in the tournament, divided into 32 groups.

Bangladesh have been placed in Group C alongside Wales, Portugal, Burundi, Indonesia, and Fiji. Under the tournament format, only the champions from each of the 32 groups will advance to the knockout stage, while the remaining teams will move to the plate competition.

Despite facing tough opponents like Wales and Portugal, Bangladesh captain Fahim Hasan expressed confidence in his team's ability. He noted that their preparation has been solid and that they are ready to put up a strong fight in every match to top the group.

Head coach Akbar Hossain Ridon shared details about the tournament setup, explaining that matches will feature two halves of 20 minutes each with eight-player squads. Bangladesh will play two matches per day on October 25 and 26. He added that the squad trained for nearly three months specifically adapted to this schedule.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Huq, who is a former captain of the Bangladesh national football team, visited the players at the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) house to encourage them. Reminiscing about his own early playing days, he highlighted the significant opportunity for young players to compete against strong international sides like Wales and Portugal.

During the meeting, captain Fahim requested better quality football boots for the team. Responding to the request, the State Minister announced that he would provide quality boots for all squad members and specialized gloves for the two goalkeepers, promising further rewards if the team performs well in the tournament.
